71 Quart Jars Colonized. Now what? (update w/ mature mushroom pics)
    #7516303 - 10/14/07 03:47 PM (16 years, 8 months ago)

I spent a lot of time getting all this rye prepared to perfection. I'm just about ready to move into the next stage. I'm look for some advice on what would likely achieve maximum results. I have Calcium carbonate, lots of verm, lots of gypsum, and a miracle grow peat most garden soil. I also have a small amount of coir. but probably not enough to make a difference. I don't have a ton of space to work with either. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated!

This is just some mycoporn i took a few months ago. I used some WBS in pint jar and dunked and rolled heavily in verm. I did this with rye also, but overall i got better results with these two WBS cakes (Stropharia Urisnesia):

^Here's a picture of a few PF tek cakes i have going now. I had a bit too much rye for the last quart jars i pcd so i used a pint jar and i might dunk and roll it later.

71 quarts of spawn?? Wow. Spawn to EVERYTHING. Shit, dude, see if you can colonize a couch.

Even if you spawned 1:1, that's still over 20 large sweater boxes...

I'm quite the idiot when it comes to spawning. I have never done it, but from what i read it really yields good results. Any links you have for some good spawn guides? I suppose i will need some hpoo. huh.

how did you find yourself ass deep in spawn w/ no idea what you're doing next?

poor planning...

the only thing you listed that would do you any good as the bulk of your substrate to spawn to is coir. Find yourself some more coir and/or hpoo and/or straw and/or compost and start spawning sweater boxes or mono-tubs. Check out the archive: Substrates.

or just crumble those all and case straight, i suppose.. but that seems like a waste after you've gone through all this trouble.

yos-

HA !  :sun:  MB does have a valid point !

How much square footage do the jars take up ?
When they are empty, that should free up some room...

Please post pictures - sounds like a fun problem to have !

Well, since i do have so much i figured i would have enough to experiment with.  I was hoping for some ideas here.  I will spend the week reading over the spawning guides.  i also bought RR's dvd a while back and might try something on there.  the 71 jars don't take up a ton of space.  I could probably fit more than a few hundred in my martha.  The not havinga  lot of space comment was more directed toward the tubs.  i don't have a lot of space to put 20 huge tubs out filled with spawn.  I will try to obtain a fair amount of hpoo this weekend.  Then i should be ready to go.   Here are a few pictures of where the jars are now - or were at on saturday...

As you can see 71 jars is only 5 boxes of 12 with 11 left over.  i could fit over 200 in that martha closet.  not that i would.  just could.

^This one is of some that i did a while ago.  Cakes are probably either WBS or rye and the casing is a simple rye cased with peat and verm 50/50.

Yeah, i did start this project without a clear direction - only knowing where i want to end up.  It's OK because i have about 10 days or so before all 71 are colonized.  So i will probably do a number of different things with the mycelium.  Case a few, I really want to try my hand at spawning.  I have a couple of really big tubs i can use for the project.  now is the time to really start the projects.  I can't wait to get all this stuff up and going.  any feedback is welcomed.

Here's my PC:

It holds 14 quarts at a time. It's the best investment i have made in the last year. When i prepared the grain I rinsed it off several times then soaked 12-16 hours then rinsed again then simmered for 25-30 minutes. THen i pc'd em for 60 minutes at 15psi. Then i took them out the pc the next morning and let them sit in the dark for 1 week before doing a g2g. I did this each weekend for the last 5 or 6. It has worked out nicely so far. Only a very few contams and stalled jars this time around. I suspect this is partially because i am now using the martha as an incubator as opposed to the tit.

I was just teasing you furrowed. But seriously, I didn't think the jars took up that much space. The point I was trying to make is that when (if) you spawn you are doing it at a ratio. So what is now 71 jars will be more after spawning.

But hey it's cool.

Make a giant poo grow.
1.)Go get all of the hpoo in your town.
2.) Sterilize ur bath tub or go buy one of those little kids size pools/
3.) Put all that shit in the tub/pool.
4.)Case it or w/e.
5.) ?????
6.) Post pics of a miniature mushroom forest.

Seriously dude, do something crazy. I would probably +5 u.
If you don't have a lot of space, you could fill the martha, and use the rest to do a 4-OH-DMT extraction. T
