Thanks, that last picture the myc had some condensation on it and that is what's causing the slight discoloration and glare in some places.

Just went through my jars and found a few nasties!  This happened to me before and I was hoping that using this different method of incubation would stop this from happening.  I need some help in identifying what this condition is.  It appears to be a decomposition of the mycelium.  :frown:  Whatever it is I got my money on throwing these jars out:

Now these ones below this text have not progressed to the stage of the ones in the pic above.  I am wondering if someone with more experience can tell me about this condition and more specifically how I can prevent this from happening.  I will make the decision to use these jars after i try breaking them up.  If they look yukie i will throw em out.

And now for the casing layer.  I am going to put everything together this weekend.  I have my poo ready for mass pasteurization.  Each day this weekend i will be doing something - tonight im cleaning up and getting my poo all broken up.  tomorrow pasteurize and the following day i will put it all in the tubs.  that reminds me I also need to create another tub for my coir and coffee grow.  Damn this is going to keep me very busy this weekend.  I just hope i can show you guys something really cool after i get everything fruiting.

Looks like the disgusting ones had some kind of major bacterial and mold contams. I see what looks like it might be grey fuzz in those jars along with the nasty liquid.

That's basically what i was thinking. However, some of those really nasty jars were g2g'd on 10/13. I wouldn't think that would be too long. I mean it was just these few jars that developed to this condition - why them and not the others? Thanks for responses!

Sorry, I just found the answer...

A large amount of metabolites generally means a bit of bacteria in the jar. The metabolites are antibiotic secretions, so when they're in large amounts, it usually means something is up. High colonization temps will also lead to metabolite production, so remember to colonize jars at room temperature.

A jar with a good filter will contain any contaminants that are within, so don't toss it out. Don't use any jar with a lot of metabolites for grain to grain transfers, but if they colonize fine, they're good to use for spawning to bulk.

Gotta say Furrowed - this looks like its shaping up to be one hell of a grow...can only hope mine goes anywhere near as well! PS and by the by, good work on searching and finding and answer to your metabolite probs! Dang about the jars going south - but I'm guessing the others more than make up for it ;D

Cheers 'n' beers - boingkster

Not only do you have absolutely zero reason for saying that, the picture isn't even high-quality enough to give you a clue.

As for the contaminated jars, those are disgusting. They appear to have standing water high up in the jar. I'm guessing you followed some method that tried to hydrate while you pressure cooked?

Contrary to the RR quote given above, those jars are definitely not spawn material. He's talking about a small band of antibiotic metabolites around a single infection, not half your jar submerged in contaminated water.

It's metabolites. They'll often pool up like that if left too long, usually months. If they have that much metabolite pooling after a few weeks, toss them.

yeah, temporarily. it's not too bad. I don't even notice it after a while anyway. I also light up a lot of incense. Bad smells seem to be a big part of this hobby.

you shouldnt use anything porus such as a paint strainer ot a pillow case. all the nutrients in the poo will stay in the water that you dump out. plastic oven bags work wonders :mushroom2:
