heres a real idea for you dude...
if youre going to have a little space outside of the martha available and want to try spawning like you said, go to walmart and buy three or four of the biggest tubs they have (the colored ones) and make some monster monotubs out of coir or hpoo or both or whatever. make the substrate as deep as you feel possible, I've heard 6 inches is the max you should go, but I bet if you used a really high spawn rate you could colonize a nice chunk of substrate. the deeper the sub, the bigger the mushies!!
not only will that take up a lot of your spawn, but it won't take up much more floor space then 1 of the tubs would, you could stack three or four of them pretty easily. then use the rest of your spawn in your martha or in more tubs.
monotubs kick ass dude.
peace

try and duplicate THIS!
by my rudimentary maths, there's the possibility for ~20# dry in front of you.

mushbaby said: I was just teasing you furrowed. But seriously, I didn't think the jars took up that much space. The point I was trying to make is that when (if) you spawn you are doing it at a ratio. So what is now 71 jars will be more after spawning.
But hey it's cool.
Oh yeah, lol. I will have to refer you to my earlier comment about being an idiot with spawn. I already have a better idea of how it's all going to work. Now I just need to get some coir and some hpoo. This will be my first time working with horse shit so im excited. I will definitely try to replicate what Akira has done in that post, Yoschie99. Now we all just need to be patient. I hate this part of the hobby. Oh well, gives me time to prepare everything a bit. Thanks for all your comments thus far!

this has sparked me to possibly make 77 quarts of WBS spawn, buy a kiddie pool, put all the spawn in, put in 10-20 bricks of hydrated coir or more with verm and maybe a tiny bit of calcium carbonate on top, then case it 50/50 and buy a bunch of humidifiers from wal-greens to make my room humid. would that be the biggest indoor grow or has that been done before?

I've already decided to take all my furniture to the storage warehouse and line the floor with black garden mat then do the above spawning strategy. I will probably use a 3 foot substrate depth. Should yield some tree sized mushrooms.

I haven't kept up enough to know if the above handful of comments are jokes or not...the bottom 2 1/2 feet of that would go anaerobic. No more than 4-6 inches.

Doubt it highly.. There are peopel that have entire basements gtowing.. besides that almost ALL musshies are grown indoors..

I think the best idea is with one of those cheap kid pools from walmart.. that would be the coolest casing ever. And it would take up a lot less space than anything else.

Yeah, i was just kidding and I bet a few others were in this post too. All in good fun. My plan is to get some hpoo (still haven't done that yet, it's top of the priority list this weekend though) and some coir too. I think i have everyhting else i need. But i will spawn in some monotubs and a few casings as well.

Seems to me that monotub is going to be the way. Amazing how well those work even in marginal conditions. I live in the desert and have had at least some success without a humidifier. It wasn't ideal for me but if I had 71 qts to deal with I would consider it. If you can get the moisture content right to begin with, you will save yourself a lot of trouble. Search for the "bulk neglect" report; you have more degrees of freedom than you might think, especially if environmental conditions aren't extreme.
Monotubs are stackable and so they don't necessarily take up a ton of space. You're gonna spend a fortune on tupperware but if you look around you can find suitable containers in bulk (check office supply stores and home depot as well as walmart). You will probably want to invest in a dremel tool or a cordless drill with a set of saw bits.
You're gonna be a busy fellow come picking time. Next thing you need to think about is preserving your crop. You're going to need a dehydrator, or else you will need a lot of real estate to air- or sun-dry those babies.

I have a small 5 tray american harvest snackmaster dehydrator. It will be way too small. I'm going to go pick up some poo today. yeaa! Something i've been wanting to do for many months now. Read up on the forums about what to look for and watched RR's dvd section on horse manure and then read 20 or so pages from The Mushroom Cultivator. I think i am ready to go. See you laterz....
