Hello

Hey everyone. I'm a new member and wanted to introduce myself, I'm in the north eastern part of the US. I just found this wonderful online community and I'm very intrigued. Unfortunately I'm very new to this and was hoping you guys could help me out with my learning experience. I'm going hunting today and will post some pictures to share. I do have a few initial questions.
1. Does the time of day matter for picking?
2. Does it matter how far into the mushrooms life it is picked?
3. How is the best way to determine out the species of mushroom and if it is a edible subject?

Welcome aboard. I'm in the NE as well, north of Albany.

Time of day doesn't matter so much this time of year because the sun isn't really hot enough to 'burn' the mushrooms away. In the summer months early morning is best, while the dew is still present.

The stage that the mushroom does not matter a whole lot (imo) I suppose it depends on what you are looking for.

The best way to determine species is THIS great community. Check out the 'Mushroom Hunting' area, you can post your finds there, just make sure you read the rules of posting an ID request

Thanks for the thoughts. I figure i would be able to find what i am after but i did find more than 6 completely different types, i am trying to get a hi res camera, some real normal beige with darker centers, some reddish small chubby s, and the neatest looking were thick stubby whitish with a violet pigment, these also had spider web like fins.

the spider webby ones may be cortinarius, which are likely toxic.

without a proper ID request, there is no way to tell what you have by your vague descriptions.
