Can't get a print

For some reason, my friend is having issues printing his EQ caps.
After the veil broke, he waited about 24 hours to pick the mushroom. At this point, the cap had flattened out and some spores had dropped onto the stem (the slightest tint of purple). He put the cap on a piece of foil on the bottom of a container. The lid had a hole cut into it and was covered with a piece of medical tape so too much humidity would not build up and the container could "breathe".
He checked on the print 36 hours later and there was NO print whatsoever, not even the slightest one.
What happened? Should he leave it in the container longer or just give up and try another?

just after the veil breaks put it on foil covered with a clear container, glass or tupperware , etc. walk away and leave it for 24 to 48 hours .. it will make a print for sure.

Actually, I'd wait until the cap flattens out and is dropping spores like crazy to start the printing process.
Look at the bottom of your cap, at the gills. If they're not dark in color, you may have a sporeless substrain. It's unusual not to get a print at all. RR

He basically followed this tek, but instead of using a desiccant in the container, He cut holes in the top covered with breathable tape like in Agar's Printing Tek.
He looked at the gills and they were basically a tan color, a little darker than the actual mushrooms. He picked it right when he saw a little purple on one of the stems which is why he thinks it contained spores.
Maybe wait until a lot more spores have dropped next time?

hahah i print in an archaic manner, but it works for me!!!

ironically, i start getting my first print, in about 4 hours, i usually toss the first printing, then take a second, and third, which is usually sterile, haven't had a contam'd one yet...
reason for tossing the first one, is that there MIGHT, not will, but mIGHT be a contam on that first drop of spores.
this may be unecessary, but it's worked for me as i've said.
