Pins! Pics! ...and a noob question :-/
    #7511132 - 10/11/07 10:40 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

So, my friends first grow, after a couple screw ups and lots of waiting, is starting to look like it might pay off for him, and is getting both of us pretty excited. He finally has some pins popping up on his first couple of 1-pint PF cakes.
Cake 1: He currently count ~33 pins on this guy in various clusters, with more continuing to pop up

Cake 2: This cake has ~10 pins on it, all along the base

He's got two more cakes in his FC that went in a bit later and should pin in the next couple days, and a few more still incubating.

Now, he noticed the first pins about 48 hours ago, and since then, more have continued to pop up. Will these late arrivals pose any problems during harvest, or is this pretty normal? He's mostly just concerned about having a few fully mature shrooms, and a bunch of still-growing smaller mushies. He knows that it's best to harvest an entire flush at once, so he's just trying to get a feel for how this is going to pan out. If this is normal, awesome, otherwise, does anyone have any suggestions?

Well, either way, I'm definitely gonna keep this post updated with my friends results and harvest pics, at least from these two cakes.

Some say harvest them all at once, then dunk, but you can harvest them as they approach maturity if you are diligent and patient.

Always harvest right before the veil tears away, or just as it begins to.
