Fan Experiment
    #7511111 - 10/11/07 10:34 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

My foaf is going to try an experiment, using two identical bins, with identical DNA, cased in the same way.

One bin's FAE is accomplished via manual fanning, 4-6 times per day.

The other, with no manual fanning, just a small room fan on low, blowing continuously on one side of it, which is of course, drilled with holes, as is the other bin.

What do you suppose the results will be?

Air flow over holes (not directly AT the holes, just blowing past them) will create a slight vacuum within the chamber. This should produce continuous FAE, your friend's friend might only notice a difference if he slacks off and forgets to fan the other box frequently.

Nice, good call, I think you are right, blow the fan across or past the long side, and create a low pressure zone on the outside of the bin.

What if he aimed the fan on the short side of the bin, would the wind currents flow around the long sides?

We need an aerodynamics major to weigh in.

I suppose one could do some wind tunnel like experiments using smoke?

It's an interesting question but I don't see why it would be more beneficial than simply mounting a computer case fan on the side of the box, either way you are going to lose some humidity.

Well, because you can blow a room fan at several FCs, versus mounting small fans in each one, and running power to all the FCs.
