my flouro setup

I just got done building a new wooden frame for my flouro setup. it is a little over 8 feet wide. the bottom is running 4 2 bulb t8 shoplight fixturesand the top is a 4 bulb t5 Teklight with 2x overdriven t8 shoplight fixtures hanging from each side. the bottom is good for seedlings and the top is good for plants that can take more light.
I can even hang 4 more shoplights on the bottom bottom if I want to. .......
and in the back is my HPS room

oh yeah and the 2" x 8" wood I got from my form boards from when I poured my concrete driveway and the plywood was in my box truck when I bought it.

I think the T8's running at 2x are putting out as much light as the T5's. you figure a 4 bulb 2x T8 setup costs $80 a 4 bulb T5 costs $300 anyone got a light meter to donate me?? lol I should make a pictorial on how to convert them.

heres an example of when I hung a standard T8 from my T5 setup and hung a 2x overdriven one on the left. the only thing I did was turn the brightness for the image way way down after uploading it to my computer. as you can see the T5's are totally white while the standard T8's are not the color you would think they should be. The 2x ones are close. I would say 4x and they would be true 6500k spectrum.

2 questions sir, how are you overdriving them, and how safe is that?

perfectly safe as long as you know what you are doing when it comes to wiring. and I am overdriving them to 2x by running a 2 bulb ballast for just one bulb. If I used a 4 bulb ballast for one bulb it would be 4x. here check it out......

looking great! what kind f T5 bulbs you using? they are jsut as cheap as t8s...its jsut a size thing...unless you are getting into teh reptile or coral type bulbs.
i buy a 4' t5 at 6500k and 91 lumens/watt for $3 cdn....
the same price for similar t8 but i think they are only 65 l/w
