the season for gymnopolis spectabilis is still going strong. They fruit from spring to summer to fall.  Its possible you can find some panaoelus subbalteatus as well. They grow in fertilized fields and in lawns/straw.

Gymnopolis Spectabilis, also called the big laughing gym, grows on wood off of rotting logs. You will have better luck going to a dense wooded area, or a larger forest. I've tried looking through smaller forests to no avail. (maybe thats just me though.)

But Gymnopolis Spectabilis is a large orange/yellow mushroom. Search for threads about it in this forum. There are tons of pictures of it, and you should get a good basis for what it looks like.

There is a deadly look-a-like that you should watch out for. Galerina. The caps are different however. Galerina has a more viscid (smooth/slippery when wet) cap, whereas the Gymnopolis has a more fuzzy/hairy look to it. The Galerina is usually never as robust of a mushroom as the Gym as well.

hope that helped. happy hunting
