i know i may sound over eager but i followed pf tek for simple minds and have done everything hr has said. I did however just use a reg pot to steam the jars, which he said was alright. its been 3 days and ive seen no growth on any of the jars. is this because ive used full pint jars instead of half pint ? also when i inoculated i didnt always get the liquid to go down the side of the jar will that have any major effect ?

Patience, it will take 7-10 days at least, in ideal conditions.
I wouldn't expect a quick harvest man, we all did at first, few succeeded.
My foaf has seen jars go 21 days with little or no sign of life, then they rapidly colonized in another 14 days.
That was at 65 degrees or so, but still, MYCOLOGY=PATIENCE.
All strains vary, all conditions vary, be patient, you cannot master this in a few months. Expect 6 months to a year to become really good.

ok thats good to know haha... i have puerto rican and mazatapec strains in the incubator and temp is about 78 79 degrees... so i have another question is the container that they sit in supposed to float on top of the water with the fishtank heater or is the water supposed to be all around the 2nd container ?

Floating or on top, I don't think it matters, my foaf doesn't use aquarium heaters.
He just keeps the room where he wants it with a space heater.

Hello Polishfarmer
Generally you will get some water coming up the sides between the two containers. To me that would be ideal but I doubt it would matter incredibly. Once you put the blanket or top over it is going to retain a lot of the environment easily anyway.
Regarding signs of growth. It won't really make much difference that you did full pint jars in terms of seeing signs. It doesn't matter too much if sometimes the solution didn't go down the sides. Try to do that next time (and for extra credit shake the jars a bit thereafter to distribute the solution as much as you can).
As far as growth signs go, 3 days is minimum in ideal conditions. I'd say if it was a syringe that had been produced with extremely fresh spores then that could be a bit less time but generally 3 days absolute minimum. I would not worry if you don't make that minimum as a lot can change. Also, you may not be able to see the first signs of growth as this is a subtle thing that takes some time to recognise. Don't look at your jars all the time either. Once a day is fine.
Good luck!

Not really sure whether you're reassuring him or you've never had faster signs?
