My friends are so ridiculously addicted to this game. I've spent many hours blazed in my friend's apartment watching him play it. Too bad I'm a Mac guy.

I always wanted to chack that out because I love space/sci-fi RPGs.
IMO, there's too many fantasy RPGs and not enough scifi.
I played Earth and Beyond a long time ago, but they didn't make enough content before releasing the game, so I played through it really fast and it got old, so I couldn't justify paying the subscription fee.
Still though, E&B was good while it lasted. I wonder if EVE is anything like that? Can you describe the basic gameplay? Is it cool?

Once you exercise this freedom you've lost all control over what you do, what is produced, and how it is produced. And in the end, the product doesn't belong to you. The only way you can avoid bosses and jobs is if you don't care about making a living. Which leads to the second freedom: the freedom to starve." - Tom Morello

Wow, thanks for your hint, I looked upon it. And, finally they managed to install a multi-player game that strongly reminds of the gameplay from the ancient 'elite' for the C64 or later 'frontier'. I hoped that they could manage a multi-player-support for 'X' but they didn't.
With EVE, life could make sense again I am not through with all the possibilities by far and the grafix are quite amazing.

I just started playing, and I'm really impressed so far!
The fact alone that skills keep advancing when you aren't logged in is enough for me!

i've played it before, but not for long. i didn't really enjoy the complex menus and the way the missions were set up. i'm all for sci-fi mmogs but i prefer anarchy online a lot more.

I've often toyed with the idea of getting involved in an MMORPG but then I always decide that my life does not allow me enough free time for it.
.....next thing I know I blew a whole weekend on the Playstation.

I am waiting on Warhammer right now.

EVE Online is the only MMO I would pay money to play these days. Unfortunately working to get the money to pay for stuff like videogames pretty much rules out the regular time commitment that an MMO requires. C'est la vie.
-------------------- The story goes, or the way that I was told There was a king that always felt too high and then he fell too low And so he called all the wise men to the hall And begged them for a gift to end the rises and the falls But here’s the thing, they came back with a ring It was simple and was plainly unbefitting of a king Engraved in black, it had no front or back But there were words around the band that said Just know: This Too Shall Pass

its free for 2 weeks then like 15 dolalrs a month or soemthing i dont know i dont pay. it does cost 20 bucks to activate an account kinda like buying the software but after that you can buy game time cards, and for anyone who is semi sereouse about playing i can work a deal to buy you timecards and teach you how to make isk (game money) it only takes 6mil a day to play wich is easy. Granted i have high skileld accoutns its not uncommon for me to pull in a billion isk a day if i try. Even with no skills if tought how to work the market you can passivly make the money with an alternate character you dont have to train or anything.
also for the time thing you skill over time so you dont gotta put lots of time into it. and if you learn tricks to making isk it cuts down time also and you can concentrate on the fun stuff. the pvp. also after you get lucky and get a 3billion score or soemthin you can buy a highly trained character securly through ccp (the eve company). In order to cut down sales from otehr sites eve allows the selling of timecards and characters for in game money as this still generates the cash to them. usualy people selling a character will include transfer fees as to the best of my knowledge. probly cheaper isk wise if you cover these fees. and if you got lots of real moeny to blow on a game you can buy isk through timecards so you can buy a ultra godly account and own noobs.

I play it... guess my username
I only play for a month every once in a while though, with a few months in between. It's too tedious for sustained play.
