Mycelium or Cobweb Mold

So this might be another failed attempt by me with WBS.
I noc'ed one jar of WBS (WBS Prepared as per RR's instructions) with Orissa India.
5 days later, I notice on top of the grain, there appears to be *very* fuzzy white stuff starting to grow. Now I assume that since I noc'ed with a spore syringe, that there's a good chance Myc would start at the top, even if the grain was shaken. What worries me is how fuzzy it appears.
My previous experiment I didn't prepare the grain the same way, but noc'ed with Orissa India as well (same syringe). It ended up with wet rot, but prior to that it had what I would call that same fluffy growth on top.
For the noc' itself, I used a glovebox, flame sterilized, gloves, anti-bact hand cleaner, etc.)...
Is there a sure fire way to differentiate cobweb from myc at this stage?
At least I smartened up and started doing one jar at a time. =P
Prior to the Orissa India, I did two back to back experiments with Ecuador. The first using a syringe. That stalled at about 70% colonized. Then I did a G2G for experiment #2 (Tried to hydrate WBS more that time). Ended up with 80% colonization. Stalled for over 1 month now.
I only mention the previous experiments since the only real variance is the strain, and the hydration of the grain. Each time I have taken the same steps. I find it odd that the Orissa could give me two back to back jars of cobweb/wet rot, and the other 24 jars from the first two tries would bypass all contams and simply stall.

Cobweb mold will grow like mad and become very obvious. Cobweb mold is darker than cubensis mycelium... more of a grey than a white. Once you have seen cobweb mold...it is very easy to tell the difference. Regular cubensis mycelium can look an awful lot like cobweb until you know what to look for.
Here is a picture of cobweb mold.

Yeah, see the fluffy bits are not nearly as 'long' as that pic. The shade of white is hard to tell since there's only a small amount of room to peek in, and the glass itself has all that beveling on it =P.
I should be able to tell more tonight. I'll post a pic if it's doable

someone elses picture of Cobweb Mold that I've been posting for years.
I show the picture everytime I see a thread like this.
so if you do a search on Cobweb Mold you will see this same exact post over a 100 times.

Here's one of my favor tips during the initial colonization of the spawn.
Labels & Markers... ------------------- 1. Label your jars. Masking tape is fine, but if you have a printer and can afford to snag a pack of 2"x4" labels from Avery, those are "teh win" for me. The only thing you need on the labels to start with is the strain-id and the date/time of inoculation. The extra room on the labels will be used for notes...
2. Keep a couple colored sharpie markers near your jars. I always have a red, black and blue marker next to them. If I see something that looks suspicious or is otherwise out of the norm - a little green spec, for example - I will take a marker and draw a circle around it that is only barely larger than whatever it is I am watching and in the same colored marker I'll write the date on the label.
--------------------
Don't mistake my tone for a "matter-of-fact" attitude. I'm just presenting what I believe to be correct, until I'm corrected... - How Myco-Curious Prepares Coir & Compost Substrates - How Myco-Curious Builds A Bulk Humidifier - How Myco-Curious Builds An Automated Greenhouse ------------------------------------ figgusfiddus said: Keep in mind that inoculating or whatever in front of a flow hood won't help your bad substrate, your bad inoculant, your bad sterile procedure, etc. etc. etc. It's not a +3 flowhood of magic, it's just a tool.

Ew.... please throw that out immediately. Its a goner. Way too much moisture in your grain as well.
