$4.5-million pot bust largest in NRP history October 10, 2007 - The Standard
On Friday, Niagara Regional Police detectives thought it might have been the biggest marijuana bust in the service's history.
On Tuesday, they found out for sure. The more than 450 kilograms of mature marijuana plants seized from a West Lincoln barn have an estimated street value of $4.5 million, bigger than any seizure before.
"That is just a massive amount of marijuana," Det.-Const. Dan Nadeau said Tuesday.
The seizure resulted in eight men being charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
"We actually don't know where the plants were grown. When we found them, they were not in any soil, they were drying," Nadeau said. "That's why they were not charged with cultivation."
The plants were found by Nadeau and other police officers after two properties on Twenty Mile Road in West Lincoln were raided.
At the first property, 3460 Twenty Mile Rd., police found 27 marijuana plants protected by primitive booby traps - boards with 13-centimetre nails sticking out, covered by grass, surrounded the plants.
A man, woman and their two grown sons were arrested at the scene.
During the search, police discovered 6,354 plants in the barn of a neighbouring property at 3443 Twenty Mile Rd.
The barn was being used to dry the plants so the drugs could be processed and packaged, police said.
Police continue to investigate to determine the source of the plants, Nadeau said.

So they figure $10000 per kg of plant material? I know I always pay ten bucks for a gram of leaves and stalks.
