PC to PC file transfer
    #7506556 - 10/10/07 06:34 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

i need some help here. i have 2 computers at home, a desktop and a laptop. i have a linksys wrt54g router and my cable modem is connected to it, the desktop pc is connected to the wrt54g with an ethernet cable and the laptop is connected wirelessly. i need to transfer several gigs worth of files (music and movies mostly) from my laptop to the desktop but i don't know how i should go about doing this.

i though that all i needed to do was run the home/office network wizard on windows xp on both computers but that didn't work (or i didn't do it correctly).

what should i do?

1) Go to computer with files and share folder you want to copy

2) Click Start>Run>Type CMD then type ipconfig to get your IP address

3) Go to Computer you want to copy files and click Start>Run>Type \\(ip address you got from step 2\

That should open up the share, then you can just drag it on over.

also if your computers are moderately new you don't need a router to connect 2 computers, and you don't need a crossover cable either most of the time.
