100% aborts on 3 different large straw casings
    #750647 - 07/16/02 09:36 AM (22 years, 2 months ago)

setup: wheat straw spawned with rye, cased with 50/50 coir/vermiculite. about a 4" substrate depth, 1/2-3/4" casing depth. circular trays about 1sq ft. in area

3 different casings inside a "indoor greenhouse", a 3ft by 1.5ft plastic thing about 4 feet tall with a zipper door.

A calibrated hygrometer shows about 90% humidity all of the time - so far there has been very minimal humidification, as the greenhouse maintains the humidity very well. a little humidification after fanning works well to keep 90% humidity.

three different casings A, B and C are about 3-5 days apart in their lives.

casing A pins incredibly well, a good 70% of the surface is in fact COVERED in pins! the pins all grow for about 3 days, then just stop. every single one. 100% abort. they all grow to about 1/2 the size of the eraser on a pencil, then all of them just stop.

as casing A's pins are aborting, casing B's pins are popping up, and while not as plentiful as casing A, still looks great. then a few days later, they all cease growth.

casing C is almost to the point casing A and casing B made it to, and it looks like it's pins are stopping growth as well.

can't pinpoint the environmental condition because it seems that whats good for one casing (it starts pinning great), is bad for another (it's pins cease growing entirely).

not a SINGLE pin developed into fruit, in an entire square foot!

Whats going on?

Could be PF by the large pinset and extreme abhorting - PF sucks - this mushroom has been selectively grown on brf alone for so many generations that its genetics are specialised and as a result it fruits poorly on everything but brf.

Whats the temp in your greenhouse area, and also how did you prepare your wheat straw?

I would agree with everybody else, you be Fuc&ed! Alright lets see so they all pin then just stop, well it could be food. I would suggest next making your sub depth 6" with a casing of 1 1/2". If I had to guess what the problem really is I would say air exchange. You say that it holds the humidity with ease right? Well if so that means that air exchange is low. Your growing in a 18 cf area so I'm not sure if fanning it a couple of times a day would be enough. How do you have it set are you using a bubbler or what? If your not using anyhting but mearly a spray bottle for humidity and simpley fanning I would say you need to change your setup, but thats just my opinion.
