Armillaria tabescens & unknown
    #7505890 - 10/10/07 03:28 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

I was at work today, walking the walk of shame after dancing around in a pizza costume on the side of the road, when I noticed a big mound of mycological goodness. Well... not goodness, but mycological none the less. I had never actually seen a cluster before, so it was a first for me.

Armillaria tabescens

I also saw this little guy on a separate island in the parking lot. No idea what it is, and I didn't have to time to take it and spore print it.

Not terribly important (unless it's a mutant weilii that i should go snatch up), just curious as to what the second one might be.

Theres quite a lot of armillaria tabescens that grow in my area. They pop up in my back yard about twice a year. I harvested a whole ton this year and cooked them in stir-fry. They have a pretty unique flavor that i dont particularly like all too much, though they do go well with tofu in a teryaki sauce.

If you are sure they are A tabescens, and you are looking to eat them, you should harvest the quickly before they dry out in that sun. (the caps look a little off to me. maybe its variation in look due to area?)
