as i search for good music on the internet i often stumble on bands from all genres. i use direct download links from the likes of rapidshare, mediafire, megaupload & so on. i assume you all know how to use the sites so i won't bother explaining them.
so i thought once in a while when i find something i think others may enjoy i'd post it here.
all the uploads are done by someone else, i merely find the links and use them and as always, when i like what i hear i try to buy the album from stores.
i've seen links as these posted here before so i don't think it'll bother anyone. of course if this crosses the shroomery policy i apologize.
***REPORT DEAD LINKS IF YOU FIND THEM***
so here we go:

Jesu (pronounced "yayzu") is an experimental/drone doom/post-metal band formed in 2003 by Justin Broadrick following the breakup of Godflesh. Jesu was the name of the last song on the final Godflesh release, 'Hymns' and Broadrick decided to adopt it as the name of his new project http://www.avalancheinc.co.uk/jesu.html

Killing Joke is an influential English post-punk rock band formed in 1979. Founding members Jeremy "Jaz" Coleman (vocal, keyboards and arrangements) and Geordie Walker (guitars) have been the only constant members.
Regarded as one of the most significant bands to have emerged from the post-punk/New Wave era of the late-1970s/early-1980s, Killing Joke strongly influenced bands such as Nirvana, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Big Black, Prong, Metallica, Jane's Addiction, Soundgarden, Foo Fighters, Econoline Crush, Faith No More and Korn, all of whom have at some point cited a substantial debt of gratitude to 'The Joke'.
Original drummer "Big Paul" Ferguson once described their music as "the sound of the earth vomiting". Killing Joke's music typically consists of hypnotic, metallic guitars and heavy, tribal, and danceable rhythms. Coleman's vocals are sometimes in a talk-sing style, sometimes a malevolent-sounding growl and sometimes emotional and melodic. Dark, ominous synthesizer loops and even sweeping, gothic keyboards appear to varying degrees, and indeed were a song-driving element on their mid 80s albums. Geordie never plays solos but his unique style has earned him praise from the likes of Edward Van Halen and Jimmy Page.

Coheed and Cambria is a progressive rock band from Nyack, New York and Kingston, New York. Coheed and Cambria have released three studio albums, two live albums, and various special-edition re-releases. Their albums are concept albums, revealing the plot of an overarching storyline, The Amory Wars. The band plans to release a total of five albums describing the saga The Amory Wars. To date, three studio albums have been released: The Second Stage Turbine Blade (2002), In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 (2003), and Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness (2005). These albums make up the second, third, and half of the fourth part of the four-part saga of Coheed and Cambria, respectively. The albums are being released out of sequence; the second part was released first, and the first part will be released last.

woven hand - mosaic
Edwards' music is an enchanting otherworldly brew. Joined by Ordy Garrison on percussion, Daniel McMahon on keys and Elin Palmer on strings, Edwards builds his compositions off haunting melodies set to the tender strain of a banjo, hypnotic percussion and the faint sound of a piano or organ.
Whether the Biblical references inspire heartfelt devotion or confused indifference, it is the power of the words and the convicting passionate authority with which they are sung that brings Edwards' songs to another level. Like his previous contributions as WovenHand and as the frontman for 16 Horsepower, Edwards' devotion is as unmistakable as the original sound he has forged. The music is brooding, dark and somehow maintains a tight grip on hope itself.
The circle is vicious of Thoughts altogether vain Haunted by battles lost Still living on Idian land

phobos - tectonics
1. Nietzschean Dynamics 2. Gregarious >mp3 3.Wisdoom 4.Monochrome Red >mp3 5.Engulfed In Subduction 6.Nihil Credo 7.Inseminator / Matrix 8.Dormant / Dead End
Melding industrial inspirations with a mechanically dark nature, P.H.O.B.O.S. aim to recapture the atmosphere of bands like the much revered Godflesh here on “Tectonics”. For the most part, the brainchild of Frederic Sacri, listeners can expect cold, steely manipulations of sound designed to paint a bleak landscape of sonic thunder.
As the composer trudges through dirging passages of pure steel and molten lava, the listener is compelled to enter the dark underworld of dissonance that is P.H.O.B.O.S., with tracks such as “Nietzschean Dynamics” and “Nihil Credo” sounding as if they were forged at the Earth’s very core. Electric techno-doom prevails as the record continues.
Aurally bleak percussive tones are enhanced by forceful axe grinding, digital effects and raw, raspy growls that beckon you to step even further into a vast, uncertain abyss as the album progresses. “Gregarious” is hugely gritty, an industrial strength dose of robotic pounding that makes Trent Renzor look like a schoolgirl in comparison. Steely and as sharp as a fine Japanese sword, “Monochrome Red” takes you on a harsh journey into that which is purely electric; it’s employing saturated guitars for maximum squealing effect as a plodding beat pounds the listening subject into submission.
If you loved Godflesh’s “Streetcleaner”, this is an album that you will certainly want to pick up, as it thoughtfully expands on those bitter emotions in a soullessly pleasurable manner.
If you like a little bit of sunshine and optimism in your tunes, or if you prefer your music to sound like it was actually constructed by organic beings, take warning. From beginning to end, “Tectonics” is a cold and harsh affair. In fact, at times it can be a little too much – listening to this record in one sitting is difficult because it’s just so damn bleak. Nevertheless, “so damn bleak” is just how many Doomsters like their Metal and for the extremists out there P.H.O.B.O.S. will hit the spot. Check it out if you like GODFLESH or extreme Doom acts like KHANATE, or if you just happed to be afflicted with masochistic tendencies.

this is truly a sad, sad "best of" tracklisting for a band i hold so near and dear. if "when ya get drafted" isn't included on a "best of" list when it comes to the dead kennedys, the list becomes invalid for me.
and get the fuck out. where the hell is "let's lynch the landlord"? i'm not a particularly big fan of the song, but that was a radio hit (in terms of punk music getting airplay), for christ's sake.

mezzanine - american burnout
Now this is a shockingly good rock 'n' roll record! For the most part the songs are remarkably similar to those on Corrosion of Conformity's America's Volume Dealer but that's not Mezzanine's entire schtick. There are also epic Red Giant space rock songs as well as mellow accoustic jams thrown in for a nice diversity. If you dig the southern boogie of Raging Slab and Corrosion of Conformity then you'll surely dig American Burnout by Mezzanine. (Stonerrock.com).

ogre - seven hells
Coming from the classic rock/early doom side of things is Ogre, and as Seven Hells attests, they’ve got a keen grasp on how to lay down the righteous. Following the blueprint established on Dawn of the Proto-Man, their 2003 debut, this three-piece comes across as half Cactus, half Pentagram, and fronted by Bon Scott’s third or fourth cousin.
While it’s easiest to pigeonhole ‘em in the doom category, their tendency to let loose and jam makes them more than just “doom.” Take “Dogmen (of Planet Earth)” for instance. There are more awesome grooves in that one song than most bands can muster up on an entire album, culminating with a sweet solo by guitarist Ross Markonish. On “Sperm Whale,” the band as a whole takes turns in the spotlight, including drummer Will Broadbent. Yeah, that’s right. There’s a motherfucking drum solo. That sort of self-indulgence can be tough to pull off without seeming, well, self-indulgent, but with Ogre, it just sounds natural, like something you’d expect to find on a live Deep Purple record. Throw in a cover of Pentagram’s “Review Your Choices” and you’ve got the makings of a winner. (StonerRock.com).

slowtorch - adding fuel to the fire
(New review out on METAL HAMMER):
Italia, 07/2007: This month, we start with Northern Italy; Bolzano, to be precise. This is where SLOWTORCH hail from (www.slowtorch.com or www.myspace.com/slowtorch […]). On “Adding Fuel To Fire”, they come over as very genuine and natural. There are influences of rock’n’roll and stoner rock, they sound a bit like Kyuss at times, with the occasional hint at more extreme music, worthy of being compared to the late 1990’s Entombed. [Their] adrenaline-driven guitar work and overall biker feel dominate, most of all on tracks like “Another One Down”. The big picture you see is the crazy image of a trip, your ass on a good old Harley Davidson, bottle of beer in hand, riding all across the U.S. Slowtorch take you down the direct route (see Hangman 11), their style and attitude are those of any southern rock band, but with a twist – they add that special pinch of metal insolence for even more fun…definitely worth your attention!

camel - mirage
UK prog band that is not as appreciated as it should be... This is their best album, representing the earlier more psychedelic influenced sounds. Later on they became much more "cheesy prog" with some synthesizer wizardry, exploring spacier territory. However, here their sound is quite amazing. Great keyboard and flute work adding those progressive touches. The best song is the suite "Lady Fantasy". That song alone will blow you away. A masterpiece of psych prog, one of my favorite psychedelic rock songs of all time. Plus a nice album cover paying tribute to their apparent vice....

Holy shit. It IS definitely their best. I don't think that's the original cover. I'm not sure. I'll look later, I think I still have it.

yakuza - transmutations
Boundary-pushing Chicago band Yakuza’s (a term referring to organized crime in Japan) 2007 full-length, Transmutations, is the group’s most varied yet simultaneously consistent and coherent release to date.
For those unfamiliar, Yakuza melds grunge, deathcore, world beat, and jazz fusion. The most unique aspect of this band’s sound has always been lead vocalist Bruce Lamont’s contributions as a sax-man. If you have yet to hear Yakuza, try picturing Acid Bath with a saxophonist.
The first track on Transmutations, “Meat Curtains,” starts out as slow, doom-laden, grunge and develops into a crusty slice of deathcore. “Egocide,” track 2, runs the gamut from Middle-Eastern tinged jazz to what I can only describe as a death-ska onslaught.
On Transmutations, the band has expanded the ‘90s alt-rock facet of their sound. Previous Yakuza releases have occasionally tossed in some cleaner, grungy vocals with the growls but the vocal styling on this album is close to an even split.
It comes as no surprise that the eclectic Sanford Parker (member of like-minded Minsk and Pelican, just to name a few of his associations) crossed paths with Yakuza, taking on production duty for Transmutations. (livingformetal review).

Wow I had 13th Step in my head the other day and tried to listen to it, but my CD was all scratched up. Weird.
I swear they make CDs scratchable on purpose so we have to buy them over and over again.
Nice post.

Huh, I thought KMFDM's sound would have evolved more by now.
Do you have any albums by Growing? I'd be glad to send a trade.

This thread is an awesome idea. I think we need a separate thread per genre though. It would make it easier. That being said I'm going to start and Indie thread.

Colour Haze - Colour Haze
http://lix.in/61cc96

"Truly it's Kyuss and The Jimi Hendrix Experience rolled into one. Mani Merwald has that Mitch Mitchell tasty-as-hell jazz cymbal work going on. Sure there's a lot of other things at work too, but this album, as does aspects of Colour Haze's other works, has the Hendrix brilliance in it. These guys are so tasteful it's sick." Queen Elephantine - Surya
http://lix.in/53a7b7

"Queen Elephantine is a group of young explorers in the world of heavy psychedelia, and ‘Surya’ is their first full-length, coming hot on the heels of various split releases and such in the past year or two. ‘Surya’ is a long, contemplative trip into the world of inner visions, a journey in which the devotional merges with the visionary to stake out a unique corner of the musical underground.‘Surya’ begins with ‘Queen Elephantine,’ a lurching, meditational drone with plenty of heavy, distorted bass; a recipe the group uses to its advantage throughout the album. The song builds very slowly, offering visions that are somehow relaxed yet filled with anxiety, bringing to mind a space voyage with a crash landing on a far planet, where the alien sands drift quietly over blurry shapes both bizarre and sinister. ‘Ramesses II’ is a desert mirage of jerky military rhythms and monks offering devotional chanting that builds into the wails of lost souls. ‘Plasma Thaw’ is more rawkin’, while the 27+ minute ‘Bison’ is as thunderous as its namesake, with leaving-the-rails blues-based thrashing reminiscent of English cult doom/sludge outfit Ramesses. This tune pushes Queen Elephantine territory out further, with various plodding sludgy riffs creating a claustrophobic blues hell colonized by nasty Tibetan demons of every description.Lovers of heavy psychedelic doom or drone as manifested by groups as wide-ranging as Sleep, Acid Mother’s Temple, Mammatus, YOB, and even ‘Saucer’-era Floyd should climb aboard with these young musicnauts. It’s not a comfortable or easy trip by any means, but it will reward your (lysergic) attention." (Hellride Music review).

Sword - Lord By Fire
http://lix.in/02fe63

Incredibly unique and massively punishing southern-tinged sludge that is equal parts Cavity and Sofa King Killer swing, Façade Burned Black hardcore/sludge and epic, gargantuan riffs that just tower above the listener in an Isis kind of fashion. They've got the most insane riffs I've heard in recent memory going from some really abstract stuff to straight-up southern groove. They switch back and forth between different moods and sounds effortlessly. These guys are incredibly tight musicians. Though the slaughtering guitar work is the main focus here, everyone gets their chance to show off their skills. There's some excellent bass work and drumming on display here. It's all topped off with some killer hoarse screams that just completely seal the deal for me. This is sludge perfection. (Daredevil Magazine review).

I'm listening to this now... I like it a lot. It's so weird though haha. Thanks for sharing!

Album thread? Cool idea.

Phutureprimitive - Sub Conscious
1. Rites Of Passage 2. Darkness 3. Elysium 4. Ritual 5. Spanish Fly (Flamenco Dub Pt. 1) 6. Hyper-Sence 7. Drifting 8. Submerge 9. Dissolve
Phutureprimitive: Rain (vocals, synthesizer, bass instrument, percussion); Alyssa Palmer, Lisa Gwaltney (vocals); Matt Warren (guitar); Carrie Phillips (didjeridu); Leroy Espiricueta (percussion).
Phutureprimitive is the work of DJ and producer Rain, whose music brings together several related genres including but not limited to trance, electronica, and dub. These related styles represent developments in computer and recording technology. Clearly, this album is result of fabulous advancements in gear and gadgets.
Nonetheless, SUB CONSCIOUS is not merely a technical achievement, but is quite artful. Additionally, Rain's deep-pocketed grooves and stimulating musical colors illuminate the craftiness of this release. "Rites of Passage" is a menacing track that begins with the sound of heavy breathing and an ominous drum beat. "Darkness" kicks it up to another level, due to the intricate keyboard textures and foreboding bass line. With "Submerge," Rain tickles the senses as electronic sounds buzz, squeak, and squeal in the foreground. However, the highlight of the album is "Spanish Fly (Flamenco Dub Pt.1)," a tune that combines sleek percussion with a flamenco guitar and a sensual Middle Eastern vocal melody. Rain has once again taken cold electronic sounds and used them to create an organic, often poignant, musical statement.

One of the sickest albums I've heard as far as heavy stuff goes.
Converge - Jane Doe

1. Concubine 2. Fault And Fracture 3. Distance And Meaning 4. Hell To Pay 5. Homewrecker 6. Broken Vow, The 7. Bitter And Then Some 8. Heaven In Her Arms 9. Phoenix In Flight 10. Phoenix In Flames 11. Thaw 12. Jane Doe
"Converge duck all the rules of hardcore and heavy metal and out of a loophole comes a new beginning. These guys live on a sonic continent near the street screech of Candiria and the fluttering high-speed precision of Dillinger Escape Plan, sounding something like Slayer backed by armies of curb-cracking skateboarders instead of hell's minions. Their uptempo doom is shaded with downbeat indie-rock tones instead of infernal majesty, and there's even a hint of British-style shoe gazing on the slow five or six seconds of this CD. Mostly what you get from this 10-year anniversary release is a frightening debacle of giant objects hurtling over your head, while impassioned but utterly distorted vocals fend off certain destruction with little pleas for humanity. It's an unpredictable and elegant triumph, softened to offer catharsis rather than total brutal assault."

Doesn't get any chiller than this
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works II

The songs on SELECTED AMBIENT WORKS VOL. 2 have no actual titles (but have been given names based on the pictures for each track in the album track listing/sleeve.
Aphex Twin: Richard James (various instruments).
Very occasionally in music, something will come at you from so far out on the left field, that not only do you not note its immediate import, you scarcely recognize it as music at all. This is the record that cemented the media's fascination with Richard James, a Cornwall bedroom DJ. Selected Ambient Works is not an entirely representative recording, as these are essentially mood pieces, unlike the more instantaneous, dancefloor-targeted material that originally brought him to the nation's attention. Nevertheless if you are prepared to make the journey, and can see past the album's intimidating length and its lack of linear framework, there are some exquisite moments - ranging in texture from melodic delirium to sweeping melancholy.

Simon Posford's down-tempo/psydub album
Hallucinogen - In Dub

1) "Mi-Loony-Um ('A Floating Butterfly Stings Like A Bee' Mix)" 2) "Solstice ('Warwick Bassmonkey' Mix)" 3) "Gamma Goblins ('Its Turtles All The Way Down' Mix)" 4) "Spiritual Antiseptic ('Minty Fresh Confidence' Mix)" 5) "L.S.D. ('World Sheet Of Closed String' Mix)" 6) "Angelic Particles ('Buckminster Fullerine' Mix)"
Not just an album to enjoy, but one to experience.
Unbeknownst to the London massive, deep within the English countryside lie a number of brilliant music producers. One such unfashionable but extremely talented artist is OTT, best friend of Simon Posford aka Hallucinogen and previous editor of the Shpongle albums. Hallucinogen's stuff would lend itself well to dub - and this proves you right.
It's a dub circus with flecks of the original souping in and out, and the effect is truly psychedelic. Spiritual Antiseptic uses the original's cutup vocals with a more traditional dub arrangement - melodica, clattering drums, and reverb to hell and back. Twisting and turning, the way the main LSD melody surfaces is pure sonic poetry, and certainly gets those brain chemicals flowing.
Finally Angelic Particles - with swirling vocals and sweet guitar (specially recorded by Simon Posford) creating a sort of timeless dub full of rich psychedelic harping back to Floyd, Gong and the Grateful Dead. This is an absolute triumph - it's original, it's brave, and the sounds are truly transporting making this a release that truly deserves the 'psychedelic' tag.

Great Hip-Hop
Mobb Deep - The Infamous

1. The Start Of Your Ending (41st Side) 2. [The Infamous Prelude] 3. Survival Of The Fittest 4. Eye For An Eye (Your Beef Is Mines) 5. [Just Step Prelude] 6. Give Up The Goods (Just Step) 7. Temperature's Rising 8. Up North Trip 9. Trife Life 10. Q.U.-Hectic 11. Right Back At You 12. [The Grave Prelude] 13. Cradle To The Grave 14. Drink Away The Pain (Situations) 15. Shook Ones Pt. II 16. Party Over
With one album--no, one song ("Shook Ones, Pt. 2")--Mobb Deep went from gimmick kiddie rap duo to hip-hop's dark horsemen of the apocalypse. Gritty and nihilistic, Prodigy and Havoc ushered in a post-gangsta era of reality rap that privileged vivid street narratives over mere drive-by posturing. As well, production by themselves and guests like Q-Tip (who did the jazzy "Drink Away the Pain") kept the soundscape moving beyond just the dissonant drone of "Shook Ones." "The Infamous" captured Mobb Deep at the beginning of their rebirth, before their formula became redundant. --Oliver Wang

Some more good NY Hip-Hop
Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein

1. Iron Galaxy 2. Ox Out The Cage 3. Atom - (featuring Alaska/Cryptic) 4. B-Boy's Alpha, A 5. Raspberry Fields 6. Straight Off The D.I.C. 7. Vein 8. F Word, The 9. Stress Rap 10. Battle For Asgard - (featuring Life/C Rayz Walz) 11. Real Earth 12. Ridiculoid 13. Painkillers 14. Pigeon 15. (untitled) - (hidden track)
Cannibal Ox: MC Vast Aire Kramer, MC Vordul.
Additional personnel includes: Alaska, Cryptic, Life, C Rayz Walz.
In sharp contrast to the "Izzo"-dominated airwaves at the time of its 2001 release, Cannibal Ox's debut album, THE COLD VEIN, stood on Company Flow's shoulders, making critics and listeners alike take notice of a strange rap underworld that was indeed alive and gathering strength. El-P's untouchable production work combined off-kilter drums, distorted keyboards, and molasses-thick samples to create an alternately dreamy and nightmarish soundscape over 15 tracks. While the relentless lyrical onslaught of Vordul and Vast Aire had rap fans scratching their heads in between nods when hit with ill metaphors like, "the sample's the flesh and the beat's the skeleton /You got beef but there's worms in your Wellington." No doubt the more prominent of the two MCs, Vast Aire proved himself one of the most wildly inventive lyricists on the planet, with a barrage of intricate rhyme schemes and anomalous delivery. THE COLD VEIN also stands among El-P's best work as a producer, and is perhaps the most powerful album to come out of the Definitive Jux label.

Ghosts and Vodka was an instrumental math rock band known for their impressive technical skills.[citation needed] The band was made up of guitar virtuoso Victor Villareal (ex-Cap'n Jazz), guitarist Sam Zurick (ex-Cap'n Jazz, currently in Joan of Arc and Make Believe), bassist Erik Bocek (ex-Tetsuo, ex-Joan of Arc) and drummer Scott Shellhammer (ex-Tetsuo, currently in American Heritage). The band formed after Bocek and Zurick ran into Villareal and Shellhammer at a Sky Corvair reunion show in 1998. Bocek and Zurick were both members of Joan of Arc at the time but quit shortly after hooking up with Villareal and Shellhammer (Zurick would return to Joan of Arc several years later) . Ghosts and Vodka ceased playing sometime in 2001 after Villareal and Zurick opted to concentrate on Owls, which saw them reuniting with their ex-Cap'n Jazz bandmates Mike and Tim Kinsella. In 2003, the Sixgunlover label compiled the group's full anthology onto one CD.

It's Not How Far You Fall, It's The Way You Land is the second studio album by English production team Soulsavers, released in 2007. The album features American singer Mark Lanegan as vocalist. Lanegan is also credited as a co-writer for five of the album's songs.
The album also features guests Jimi Goodwin of Doves, Will Oldham (a.k.a. Bonnie "Prince" Billy), and PW Long. The album has spawned two singles so far: "Revival" and "Kingdoms Of Rain."
The album has been favorably compared to Death in Vegas' 1999 album The Contino Sessions, which has a similarly atmospheric feel and also features a number of guest vocalists, including Iggy Pop and Dot Allison.

The Meat Puppets are a American rock band formed in January 1980, in the Sunnyslope neighborhood of Phoenix, Arizona. The group's original lineup was Curt Kirkwood (guitar/vocals), his brother Cris Kirkwood (bass guitar), and Derrick Bostrom (drums). The trio met while attending Brophy Prep High School in Phoenix. They then moved to Tempe, Arizona (a Phoenix suburb and home to Arizona State University) where the Kirkwood brothers purchased two adjacent homes, one of which had a practice "shed" in the back where they regularly practiced. This same house would years later be the scene of at least two tragedies.
One of the more notable groups on the roster of SST Records (who released most of their albums), the Meat Puppets started as a punk rock band, but like most of their SST peers, the Meat Puppets established their own unique style, blending punk with country and psychedelic rock, and featuring Curt's warbling vocals. The Meat Puppets later gained significant exposure when the Kirkwood brothers served as guest musicians on Nirvana's MTV Unplugged performance in 1993. The band's 1994 album Too High to Die subsequently became their most successful release. The band broke up twice, in 1996 and 2002, but reunited again in 2006.

"The Dirty Ones" displays a rootsier approach to their soulful brand of punk/blues/heavy rock. Produced by TIM GREEN (The Fucking Champs, Nation Of Ulysses), this record brings together their past touring efforts with bands as diverse as Dystopia, The Black Halos and Dead Moon. "The Dirty Ones" is a real rock n' roll record devoid of any formulas and impervious to classification." (StonerRock.com).

2nd Album by Holland's rawest and wildest PSYCHEDELIC power blues trio. Raw and intense hi-volume PSYCHEDELIC motor-bluesrock with the real original late 60's proto hardrock/acidfuzz sound of Blue Cheer. Quite some HENDRIX style guitar freak-outs with more catchy 60's pop song structures at the same time. Howling and 'singing' guitar solos mixed with heavy garage punk riffs and dirty psychedelic stoner/hardrock outbursts. An explosive and yet soulfull trip through the twisted minds of 3 ACID BLUES freaks from Holland....

Evans Blue: Kevin Matisyn (vocals); Parker Lauzon, Vlad Tanaskovic (strings); Joe Pitter (bass instrument); Darryl Brown (drum).
The evocatively named THE MELODY AND THE ENERGETIC NATURE OF VOLUME is the debut CD from Canadian alt-rockers Evans Blue. The band plays punchy, melodic music that takes pages from the books of grunge, emo, and commercial hard rock. And while they're rewriting none of those books in the process, Evans Blue strike enough of a balance between muscle and tuneful accessibility to gain widespread acceptance, which is exactly what the band seems poised to do.

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92

1 Xtal (4:51) 2 Tha (9:01) 3 Pulsewidth (3:47) 4 Ageispolis (5:21) 5 i (1:13) 6 Green Calx (6:02) 7 Heliosphan (4:51) 8 We Are The Music Makers (7:42) 9 Schottkey 7th Path (5:07) 10 Ptolemy (7:12) 11 Hedphelym (6:02) 12 Delphium (5:36) 13 Actium (7:35)
To think that Aphex Twin made some of these tracks in his early teens is completely bewildering. This is etheral electronic music that is completely breathtaking in it's simplicity, in the range of emotions it contains and in the array of landscapes it conjures up. Some of the tracks are so raw and basic, yet they outstrip so much of what passes as electronic music today (much of it too complicated and over produced) due to their sheer beauty - which for me lies in their simplicity. Just listen to 'Ageispolis' which can remind you of the most beautiful childhood memory in the world or the most gorgeous landscape. Or listen to 'Heliosphan' which has the most beautiful shuffling breakbeats (long before breakbeats became incorporated into electronic music widescale). The closing track 'Actium' is a master of beautiful trancelike hypnotisim, that doesn't need to bang your brains out - it's real trance music! A stunning, groundbreaking electronic album that will go down in history, if it already hasn't.

Aphex Twin - Richard D James Album

1. 4 2. Cornish Acid 3. Peek 824545201 4. Fingerbib 5. Corn Mouth 6. To Cure A Weakling Child 7. Goon Gumpas 8. Yellow Calx 9. Girl/Boy Song 10. Logan Rock Witch
For anyone raised on rock & roll, the new world of electronic music can seem like a strange and forbidding place. From trip-hop to techno, acid house to drum and bass, the myriad styles and subgenres bear names far more exotic than "punk" and "grunge," and the music doesn't play by rock's rules. Songs rarely follow verse-chorus-verse formulas, they don't often have singers, and even when you get a guitar riff, chances are, it's been sampled off an old record and distorted until it doesn't sound like a guitar anymore.
But if there's no room for guitar gods in the electronic age, new heroes are emerging. From sample junkies such as DJ Shadow to techno geeks like Aphex Twin, a generation of artists is using technology to reshape the way pop music is made – and the way we hear it.
Richard James, a k a Aphex Twin, is one of the seminal artists of the current British ambient-music scene. Using only his own modified synthesizers and rewired keyboards, along with found sounds, the former electronics student transforms a world of disconnected noises into peculiar soundscapes that have brought a quirky human dimension to the normally austere pulse of dance-floor techno.
Isolated in his London studio, the eccentric composer (he keeps a surplus army tank in his parents' back yard and claims he sleeps only two hours a night) has gradually moved away from the somber minimalism of his early work to create a fuller, more varied sound. On 1995's I Care Because You Do, for instance, he veered from wiry, buzzing squalor to chunky, slow-rolling rhythms that wouldn't have sounded out of place next to the trip-hop of Tricky and Portishead.
Richard D. James takes Aphex Twin even further from techno conventions, combining jolting beats, pristine melodic fragments and random noises into elegant – if at times unnerving – futuristic pop. From the first song, "Cornish Acid," in which a melancholic passage of cello and violin sounds is splintered by a racing jungle beat, to the fusion of chamber music and squiggly cartoon noises in "Logan Rock Witch," Aphex Twin manipulates his infinite palette of tweaked synth tones like a classical composer arranges a string section – with each discrete sound adding shade and complexity to the overall work.
Not all of Richard D. James goes down easy. There's menace lurking beneath the jerking beat of "Peek 824542,01." And "Milkman" takes a twisted turn with the lyric "I would like some milk/From the milkman's wife's tits." But amid the dark currents and rush of alien sounds, Aphex Twin coaxes great emotional resonance from his machines. During the album's most lyrical moments – the delicately brooding "Yellow Calx" and the lusty "Girl/Boy Song" – the dance-floor Wunderkind seems poised to reinvent himself as techno's first poet.

yakuza - transmutations
Bruce Lamont contributed his sax efforts on the latest Minsk release, on the songs "Orphans Of Piety" and "Ceremony EK Stasis" (I'm sure you knew that though).
EDIT: Just noticed you added 'Ritual Fires'. Nice It's my new favourite album.

Somebody may have already posted it but I doubt it. I've noticed quite a few people on here seem to like Shoegaze but not that many Black Metal fans. Here's the Ruines Humaines e.p. by Amesoeurs, a band that fuses Black Metal with Shoegaze.

This is the latest album by DeathSpell Omega. A Black Metal band with an avant-garde approach to their music, though not necessarily what I'd call an Avant-Garde Black Metal band. Also, for those who are interested, this a part of a trilogy of albums dealing with God, Satan, and how man interacts with the two opposing forces on a metaphysical level.

Here is the latest album by Wolves In The Throne Room; one of the few contemporary Black Metal bands that maintain a level of independence from the 'scene' and don't seem put out boring 'grim' and 'tr00' blast-beat galore music. This is Two Hunters by Wolves In The Throne Room:

not trying to be a real dick, but I hate megaupload! If you aren't a member they only allow you one download at a time. They also got popups and waiting between songs. I been liking the mediafire downloads the most. Quick, no limit. So much to download I can't sit around and click one at a time and wait for each one.
With mediafire you can open 10+ downloads come back in 20 minutes and click another 10.
But lastly thank you for taking the time and putting out the music!

thrice... the alchemy index vols 1&2 and 3&4 - amazing albums.
circa survive is great too.
thats all im gonna say right now. i dont have A favorite band. Just many of my top favs... and those two are at the top as well as some others. but right now and for a long time ive been listening to much thrice and vheissu and other albums of thrice are great too. the alchemy indexs i think are the pinnacle of their work though. just amazing art... and incredible breakthroughs of creativity. love those guys. and i dont have a direct download link and im not even sure about this thread cus i didnt check the first page, haha. but whatever.. you guys can find it, listen, buy it, whatever.. but check em out if you dont know. and if youve only heard thrice years ago then you still dont know cus theyve been morphing for a long time which i think any great band should and will do. although some dont.. but.. many do.

Yeah thats the new one, if its a proper upload. Doesn't sound like the OP knows what he is talking about. There is a good copy of the new black angles album on like page 16 of the indie thread I posted, not sure if its actually page 16, but its one of the last pages for sure.

MONSTER MAGNET - LIVE IN LAS VEGAS
"This is the limited edition live CD that came in the 2nd release of Powertrip in the US and Europe. While many feel that Monster Magnet have sold out now and become too mainstream, I would like to argue that this has all been a calculated plot by Dave Wyndorf himself. A little background... Back in 1995 I had a one - hour chat with Dave on the bus in Boston and he told me that in order for him to gain 100% control and be able to put out albums like Space Ritual with 20 minute songs he had to ride the edge of just being pop enough to sell enough records to gain this control. Now that Powertrip has sold like 2 million worldwide, he must be smiling. This CD just shows you that the band really wants to play "Space Rock". The CD opens with a pretty standard Temple of your Dreams. Next up Dave gives a monologue about the CD being recorded in Las Vegas and that they have been playing the same numbers for the last 6 months and how would the audience like to hear some "Space Rock"! Now the CD really gets going... you can hear the Hawkwind era 1972 space sounds in the background and the band blast into Dinosaur Vacuum. Baby Götterdämerung is next and also pretty spaced. This is followed by an excellent very psychedelic version of Cage Around the Sun. Finally, they close the set with Bummer at 7 ½ minutes, which of course stole the guitar riff from Hawkwind's Time We Left This World today! The music is not over before a 9½ minute version of Space Lord Mutherfucker, where I can just picture Dave smiling all the way to the bank; as he has 30,000 people singing Space Lord Motherfucker and all sorts of other weird lyrics!! Excellent CD and shows that the band are still dedicated to playing some spacerock." (review by Scott Heller).
1 Temple Of Your Dreams [Live] (5:34) 2 Dinosaur Vacuum [Live] (5:19) 3 Baby Götterdämerung [Live] (4:00) 4 Cage Around The Sun [Live] (8:18) 5 Bummer [Live] (7:35) 6 Space Lord [Live] (9:31)

A charter member in the infamous Inner Circle of early Norwegian black metal bands, Darkthrone remains true to the spirit of that era. Originally known as Black Death, the band played standard Scandinavian death metal, releasing one album in that field (Soulside Journey) before deciding that the then-new wave of black metal was the way to go -- abruptly they changed style and image (adopting the corpsepaint look synonymous with the scene) and with A Blaze In The Northern Sky the legend was born. Darkthrone albums are uncompromisingly primitive, raw, evil works, mostly in a similar early black style (the aforementioned Journey and Panzerfaust, with its quite evident Celtic Frost worship, are slight variations on the theme) -- definitely not easy listens but quite notable for their influence on the black metal scene.

The Wicker Man [Soundtrack] - Paul Giovanni
Amazon.co.uk Review Extraordinarily literate and thoroughly compelling, The Wicker Man has often been called the Citizen Kane of horror movies. Writer Anthony Shaffer and director Robin Hardy built their contemporary (1973) English murder mystery/thriller upon gothic Druid underpinnings and wisely gave songwriter/composer Paul Giovanni (whose first and only film score this is) the freedom to create music of a piece. The score remains one of the most unusual in the entire genre: a collection of original, well-researched folk songs and instrumental underscore that evoke a rare, eerily discomfiting sense of displaced time and place; 70s folk-pop informed by ancient forces of nature and superstition. Long a holy grail among soundtrack aficionados, this lavishly packaged/annotated release has been prepared from recently discovered master tapes with a clarity and presence that gives the late Giovanni's haunting music the gratifying showcase it's so long deserved. --Jerry McCulley

Mumbo Jumbo - Speaking In Tongues-2003-GEM

Mumbo Jumbo are Mitch Davies a.k.a Dj Kuma, and William Bryan Halsey a.k.a Bilbo Bagginz a.k.a Cosmosis. Both are british and well known for their works for Transient, Turbo Trance, Phantasm and other respectable record psy-companies. In 2003 their only album Speaking In Tongues was released. It was nice combination of goa, tribal and funky psy-sound with distinct touch of intellegent english psy-style.

I can't believe another one of these threads got started! I'm almost through all the music from the last ones.
I'll have a browse through, then I'll get zipping myself
