I looks like bad news. I pray that they dont ban shrooms but i think they will do it.
It would be nice when some dutch peoples keep us informed.

"Health minister Ab Klink is preparing to ban the sale of hallucinogenic mushrooms following a string of incidents involving foreign tourists, the AD newspaper reports on Wednesday."
Leave it to foreign tourists who can't handle their shrooms to fuck it up for everybody else. I know someone who lived in Germany for 2 years who would take weekend trips to Amsterdam. She told me you can always tell who the Americans were because they would be the ones fucked up stumbling around on the streets acting like fools.

That is how you distinguish them in any city, though.

In the Netherlands just because a substance is illegal doesn't mean that it is difficult to get your hands on, IME. I don't really think they waste their time/resources enforcing drug laws. For instance, last year I often saw dried shrooms for sale, even though they were technically illegal.
Don't worry; you're still gonna have the time of your life. If it's your first time in town be sure to check out the Grey Area coffeeshop. Also, you can do worse than to stay at the Get Lucky Guesthouse.

illegal is not the same as ban.
i cant believe this actually passed! well, hopefully they will still be around in the next few months.
I'll try to get more info on my trip there - maybe even some interviews with shop owners and etc.

funny enough, it was the death of european tourists, and not americans that sparked this ban.

it's not realy the tourists fault mushrooms are getting banned. the few inicidents involving mushrooms each year are nothing compared to the shit with for example alcohol abuse. its just politics. the incidents are used as an excuse to get dutch drug laws in line with other EU countries. the current goverment are a bunch of cowards who's only interest is to save their own political hides and suck up to our bigger neighbours and uncle sam.
amsterdam police wil get alot of extra work enforcing the ban and in the end nothing really changes. except buyers will be at the mercy of unscrupulous street dealers.

Silly dude, you're posting at the Shroomery. Buyers won't be at the mercy if they decide to not be buyers anymore.

Clearly, if it is illegal, most tourists won't be buyers.

Are American tourists scoffed at in Amsterdam? I mean like... if you walk into a coffee shop for the first time and start asking questions.. does everyone roll their eyes at you?

a major dutch vendor started an initiative to save the shrooms from being banned. they've set up a site where you can sign a protest email and send it to the minister of health or other officials of the dutch government. they also give out free sporeprints so people can start growing their own. 20.000 protest emails have been sent in the last few days.
it is in dutch reddepaddo.nl

I doubt it, considering how much tourism there is.
I just asked someone who is quite familiar, and they said no one rolls their eyes at anyone really, that everyone is pretty cool.

There isn't much information around about this at the moment. I'll keep you informed. I think the parliament will vote for it this week.
Sad political years in Holland for the last 5 years.

No, because there are almost only tourists in coffee shops where tourists go
