mycelium question.

at this moment i have 10 recently inoculated jars in my closet where i have placed a heater to keep the closet temperature at around 83 F. unfortunately the heater keeps shorting out when I'm out of the room and it will go an entire night at cooler temp. However its been on and off for the last to days and I'm afraid that the fluctuating temperature might harm its growth... i have two strains ... EQ and Amazonian and the EQ's were just beginning to show signs of mycelial growth. the Amazonian haven't shown any signs... it has been 5 days since inoculation...
will the fluctuating temperatures stunt the growth? or just prolong it?

Patience, patience, patience.
Allow at least 2 weeks before assuming the jars are not going to grow.
Colonization may be ideal at 84, but it also works just fine at 65, it's just slower.
Some people say that slower is better for potency, and my foaf's experience has supported this claim.
Most are in such a hurry they use all kinds of risky heating sources to push that 84 at all times.
Room temp is fine, and besides, if you knock-up jars on a regular basis then you will birth on a regular basis, regardless of how long they take to finish.

This is true but there are other ways to push the temp safely it just depends on a)if you got the money to spare b)if your serious about your hobby
there should be no real rush to grow but it is nice to see your project moving along and doing something .
i have baught a decent electric heater to go in a cupboard too and as its my computer room it keeps it nice and warm also and have that running day and night at 84 f so realy as with every thing you get from what you put in but no its not nessecary ,just depends how far into this hobby you want to go

Right on, my foaf uses a small room space heater, keeps the entire room around 75 degrees running hardly at all.
