You're talking as if she was elected to some office..She's just the presidents wife. Just because you elect the president some not mean you elect his wife as well. That's just nuts.
I hate democracy, it's just nuts. It breeds insanity. And this is yet another example.

The wife of the president is in a position of influence. She doesn't have any sort of authority that anyone need recognize, but if she wants to make a speech than people will listen. Some first ladies use this privelage to dedicate their time and energy to worthy causes (Eleanor Roosevelt), some use their time and energy to counter-productive bullshit (Tipper Gore), and some don't do shit but sit in the white house doing god knows what while their husband makes foreign policy blunders (Laura until recently). I do agree with you to some degree that she is overstepping her bounds a little bit, as a woman who in the past has stated she has no interest in politics, to ask Myanmar's Government to step aside. It would be better if she did some humanitarian work than try and follow in her husbands footsteps in assuming a voice of authority over other Nations.

How is this an example of democray breeding insanity?

Why would I listen to her just because she's the wife of the president? The only reason why she is in a position of influence is because she is well known, aside from that I see no reason to view her voice as from someone who has the authority to go speaking on political matters, as if she somehow fit into the office of the president with her husband. And that's exactly what she's trying to do.
She needs to shut up and , people need to wake up.

It's just one of many.
American democracy is just full of examples of insanity, people justifying invalid political ideals and contradictions. For instance, justfying rebellion against it's governing body (england) for crimes it deems"intolerable" (yet which in reality are petty), and then expecting people to submit to the same government when it passes laws that Americans likewise feel are unjust or intolerable. Hipocricy . Or in a similar sense, people today would have no qualms if people justified a slave rebelling against a slave owner back in slavery days because it was deemed as a civil rights issue, but if people feel certain laws violate civil "rights" today, it doesn't matter you're obligated to obey the majority rule.
democracy is insanity and it contradicts itself. In democracy, if one side feels oppressed unjustly, they are deemed justified in rebelling, but if they set laws that other people feel are wrong or oppressive, the other side is obligated to conform and obey.
Insanity!

It isn't just you.

Well, I can't speak for you, but for most people, you just answered your own question. Because she is the president's wife is a pretty good reason to listen to her. I'm assuming you are not married, otherwise, you would probably understand this.

Remember 1st lady Hillary and her health care fiasco? Did you support her efforts, or did you think she needed to wake up and shut up?

How does being someone's wife make their opinion valid or authority on par with their husband? Shouldn't we judge people by their own merit? Where in the constitution does it say that the presidents spouses take part in there administrative duties? (and even if it did, this would be nonsense)

It doesn't, but that isn't the point.

But thats all it takes. If you are well known, whether you are an athelete, a celebrity or the wife of a president, you have the power than when you want to say something your message will get out to a lot of people. Did I ever say that means the message itself is neccesarily valid? No. You shouldn't listen to someone just because they are anybody, but you also shouldn't not listen to them. Tell me where the wisdom is in saying "oh she is the wife of the president she wasn't elected so therefore she has nothing valid to say." All you are doing is closing yourself off to new ideas and isolating yourself to your own stupidity. You condemn American democracy but honestly I think it is the effort of people who are uninterested in dialogue that is creating the "insanity" that you talk about.
When someone is famous they can either:
A) Ignore their fame and not say anything b) Use their fame to make money, "cash in" and not help anyone c) Use their fame to make negative change d) Use their fame to create positive change
I am no fan of any woman who would marry that piece of shit, but it sounds like at least she is going for option D. This means I will listen to what she is saying long enough to form my own opinion about the content of her message.
