Lighting - Energy saving Bulb
    #7504310 - 10/10/07 06:11 AM (16 years, 4 months ago)

I have just been reading subjects on lighting as my current method i dont think is suitable, its just a normal fillement bulb.

After much reading, i know that light in the 5000k - 7000k are best suited.

I was was wondering if those energy saving bulbs (compact fluorescent) would be better than my current bulb. I have a 20w one that looks quite blue and after searching google its frequency could be around 6000K, as suggested on wikipedia which shows a picture of an energy saving bulb that looks blue stating its frequency at 6500K.

Yup, CF lamps are much better. Lower wattage, better spectrum. The cheaper ones tend to burn a hotter plasma, which is unpleasant light in your living room but ideal for mushrooms and even weed.

They sell these at lowes. The lowest temp they had available was 5000k. So as long as it is a white light, it will work great. I had great success with this bulb.

But I get far superior results with this bulb. It has two 65w 10000k bulbs, but I only turn on one at a time. The fixture is a power compact floro for aquariums. You can buy any temp bulb you want for these. It puts out enough light to reach about 1" into the substrate. It rocks!
