No suspects for large cocaine stash found in Carrollton home October 9, 2007 - courier-gazette.com
When Sgt. Brant Livingston knocked on the front door at 1806 Post Oak Lane in Carrollton on Thursday, he simply wanted to serve civil papers to the homeowner, Livingston said. What he found was one of the largest drug and money stashes Denton County officials had ever come across.
The house had $1.5 million in cash stacked on tables and on the floor, said Livingston, a sergeant deputy from Constable Precinct 6 in Carrollton.
The nine guns were found later after police obtained a search warrant. And still later, Carrollton drug dogs found about 400 pounds of cocaine, he said. The street value of 400 pounds of cocaine is about $18 million, according to police.
Livingston hadn’t anticipated such a discovery as he was getting ready for work that morning, he said.
When he knocked on the door of the Carrollton home, Livingston said he could see people in the house who wouldn’t open the door. Livingston’s work partner — who was sitting in the car at the time — joined Livingston at the door when he noticed trouble.
Just then, three people ran out of the back of the house, Livingston said. Both deputies hopped over the fence and ran behind the house to find the three people gone, Livingston said. His initial reaction was the three people were burglarizing the home. But they had left back door open, and in plain view, Livingston said he saw stacks of cash. Also nearby was a small amount of marijuana, he said. At that point, Livingston said he realized the three fleeing people probably were not burglars.
The three people who ran from 1806 Post Oak Lane are still missing, according to an official at the sheriff’s office. No arrest warrants have been issued.
“We don’t know who they are,” said Tom Reedy, spokesperson for the Denton County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Denton County appraisal records, Noemi Vargas is the current owner of the home. Vargas purchased it in August 2006, and the property was assessed at about $150,000 in 2007.
While Livingston was inspecting the house and calling for back up, less than a mile away, students at Dale B. Davis Elementary School were placed on lock-down by Carrollton police, said Angela Shelley, spokesperson for the Carrollton-Farmers Branch school district. The “code yellow” alert kept students locked in their individual classrooms until the end of the school day.
“Perpetrators sometimes tend to run to get away from the police,” Shelley said. Students were walked, one-by-one, to cars when school was finished for the day.
Police say they were not aware of a potential drug ring in Carrollton.
The Drug Enforcement Agency took possession of the cocaine. The $1.5 million has been deposited in a nearby bank, Reedy said, and will be split up among federal and local agencies when the case is closed.
“That may be years in the future,” Reedy said.
The sheriff’s office continues to look for the fleeing suspects, Reedy said.

I think this whole story is bullshit.
I love how cops just stumble over large amounts of drugs in the media. Whoops! Just found 200 kilos. How'd that happen?
serving civil papers my ass, those people got narc'ed out.
I used to live in that area and I know for a fact that Carrollton is a hotbed of drug activity. The police know this too and have set up a Task Force aimed at confiscating as much money as possible. This task force was in the paper about a year ago. "Police say they were not aware of a potential drug ring in Carrollton." My ass, they've been busting people left and right for the past year.
the article is just a plant to protect the informant.

You know how when a stupid girl tells you, "you're so cool" and it makes you realize how not cool you actually are because of how not coll she is? Well, imagine that is me and I'm telling you that, your ego-conspiracy is so cool!

i don't think they would just leave 1.5 mill and just run off. i bet the cops killed them and hid their bodies somewhere. then just say those guys ran off. think about it. almost $20mill worth of shit there and they just run off like nothing? there should be a big gun battle if that really happen.

here's what I think really happened:
informant tips off police to location of large stash. This is not enough evidence to get a warrant, so they send someone out there to investigate, possibly with a dog. The residents see this and bolt. Police come back with a warrant, and the rest is history.
sergeants don't serve papers, constables do. So why would a Sgt even be there? You know what sergeants do? they command SWAT teams.
after the haul is delivered to evidence custodians, detectives realized they fucked up big time, there's all this coke and no one to charge. They use the media to give the suspects (and yes, the police DO have an idea as to who these folks are) the impression that it was just a random thing and they aren't looking for anyone in particular.
this simultaneously protects the local informant and gives the suspects the impression they are safe and anonymous, while the police go about their manhunt. The police do know the power of press.

they are just letting them go to bankroll some more money for them to seize.
when it comes to LEO going after drug dealers i really see it as robbery against the people.
