OK, i found these mushrooms today, today was cloudy all day and throughout most of the day it was spitting slightly with little light rain drops that are so light they have been floating around in the air and caused a bit of fog (dont know if the weather condition helps with ID, but there you go!)

Habitat: Found in wood chips with small plants surrounding it like flax etc. and a couple trees. There is a lot of dark brown soil under all the wood chips
Gills: The gill colour is light brown, basicaly just the same colour as the cap but a little lighter
Stem: Covered in this white stuff which looks slightly furry when you look close enough and also seems to come off and reveal a light brown wet stem underneath. Not really fragile (nothing noticable about it). Same thickness throughout. 3~4mm wide.
Cap: Orange brown, VERY sticky!, 5~10mm wide in diameter, about the size of a finger nail
Spore print color: Didn't take one yet... will update later
Bruising: (Now this was the exciting part!)... Once picked, the underside (side with gills) started bruising in random spots with a light blue and the ridge of the cap. It only bruised on the underside, but you could slightly see it going through to the top of the cap also. The stem only bruised a little bit up the top (near the cap). The bruising colour started light blue and quickly turned into a darker blue, in some areas it even went pretty much black, but mostly stayed light/dark blue
Location: Picked in Auckland, New Zealand
Plus, i'm just wondering... For the spore print, is it alright if the cap has been cut in half? because i gave the other half to my friend to do a spore print also

Probably Psilocybe Subaeroginosa. It's definitely a Psilocybe and it's definitely active (bluing and everything else). If you were American I would have said you've found Ps. Cyanescens but when you from Down Under I guess it's more likely you've found Subs.

you just made my day! now that i think about it, they do look pretty much like Psilocybe Subaeruginosa, but the small size and short stem made me think otherwise let's just hope someone else can confirm this

Well, I'm not from New Zealand, but they are pretty common down there, at least as far as I know. Short stems are pretty likely for fruits that grow directly from wood chips and small size doesn't mean anything. Some fruits are bigger, some are smaller. It seems that early fruits tend to be s a little smaller (or in your case late fruits )
Although I'm almost absolutely sure that this is at least an active Psilocybe, you should wait for a 100% ID confirmation by someone who either knows about it and/or is also from New Zealand.
But my ID would be Ps. Subaeroginosa or PS. Cyanescens (IF they grow down there as well).

those are, boyond question active Psilocybes. yo do of course want to meticulously confirm all specimens if they will be consumed, but you get more and more used to this as you get used to picking them.
--------------------
Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

me and my friends just searched for another hour or so today in the same small area and found like hundreds of them. they're all really quite small though and hidden under the wood chips
oh and the spore print didn't exactly work out. i'm a noob at this, and well... it was such a small cap that the gills were barely even able to touch the paper, only a blue print around the edge from the cap was left behind, probably the the same stuff as from the bruising. and the cap had dried up in the morning. plus, i had put it in a small box really don't know why it didn't work, but its a pretty much definite Psilocybe Subaeruginosa so that's good enough for me
oh and once again, thanks for your help!

I would say that is an active P.subaeruginosa A very late one too.Your persistence has paid off bobla. I would still recommend you do a spore print before ingesting those hundreds that you found

If they are under the wood chips, maybe you should wait until they mature so that they can drop their spores and do natures thing. It's not in the fungi's interest to drop their spores all over their mycelium. They want to spread. Plus they will most likely reach their most potent stage by then. If they aren't leaving a spore print, they are not mature enough to drop off. Any second opinions?

yeah, i really wanted to let them grow a bit more and mature properly, but all of a sudden there's another group of people harvesting them! i think because my friend told someone, and they told another person etc etc oh how sad... but i think we got enough anyway
this time was really just a learning experience for me. next time i'll make sure to do everything perfectly! and thanks to these forums, i've learnt a lot of important info on picking, storing, IDing and all that stuff... this is really getting somewhere!
