I found these rite next to a government facility but I was completly hidden from view from you know who. Not refering to the farmer. Hes the least of my concerns in this field. They were scarc this season so I blew the spores off every cap I found into a good breeze directly upwind from thousands of tons of cattle and horses.
Does anyone know how long one would live or grow compared to cubes? I found no cubes where these were growing but have seen them growing in the same cow pie at the same time before.
I found some immitators in the same cluster. normally I can tell the difference from twenty feet away but the ones in this picture stained a redish-brown color. I know the other pans that grow with them are edible but these were different. so far i've counted 6 different species growing from dung. Three are edible. but these are by far the most potent thing i've ever eatin. DO NOT DRIVE AFTER EATING THESE.

Nice. The really brown ones are crazy. Maybe a different Copelandia species?

nah, not all of those are copes.... There are a few inactives in there. In the second picture, the ones on the left. And in the first picture the two in the middle. They are close but as you can see there is no bluing. Also compare the texture of the stems.

He has a few Copes in there. It is a mixed collection of mostly mangled Panaeolus mushrooms. Remember to check each mushroom for bluing, one by one, and toss out anything that does not blue.

when you say "edible" do you mean active or actually edible for simple consumption?

On my hunts here in Southern Florida I often see the same thing. Two pans growing on the same poo pile, one with a whitish stem that blues and one with a reddish/brownish stem that doesn't. Otherwise they look almost identical. The non-bluing ones get tossed.

I was very bored that night as you can see. Subbhunter, I did eat some inactive tasty ones that looked like pans but were up to twice the size and were very bright white with black gills. I was very poor and had to through them in some soup after drying them.
I did through away the brown ones. The grow out of the same cow pie. They had me fooled so be careful all you amature hunters. In the 2nd pic I put the nasty ones perpendicular to the others.
So you can find copes and Pans. in Florida? I guess I need to do some more research. They seem to like the same growing conditions. thanks for the heads up guys.
