Will they drown?
    #7502865 - 10/09/07 07:54 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

I had a little patch going in a little swamp like area. It seemed perfect as it is all muck and rotten leaves, though I added some Black Kow and rotten hay. I figured if I was lucky, maybe the Mazatapecs would take root permenantly (is that possible? good weather FL), as muck isn't too far from manure.

But I fucked up and misjudged the water levels and just as my first patch began to blossom to my astonishment and delight (I didn't think it was gonna work)--it flooded. Godammit.

I salvaged the few that grew. They were waterlogged and I took them because I figured they would rot if I didn't.

My question is, after the water subsides, as it will, especially now with summer gone, will they have died or can they still colonize?

I suppose it would depend on how long its been underwater. I'm sure it would recover fine if it wasn't too long, cakes and casings are fine after a 24hr dunk!

Outdoor patches can be very hardy, I wouldn't forget about them.
Once conditions become optimal again, I'd bet that they would regenerate.
Just make sure that the flood didn't wash away the needed nutritous materials, or leave the mycelium overly exposed to dry out...
