Field Ethics
    #748470 - 07/15/02 02:29 PM (21 years, 8 months ago)

While in the cow field this morning I came across a good ammount of huge pins (Cubensis). Most with caps the size of shooter marbels. At first I snatched them up but after about 5 I stopped b/c they hadn't even released their spores yet. I felt that I was diminishing the future mushroom population. After this I blew into all of the gills of mature specimens to help release their spores and then bagged them.

Just a good thought I would share with the rest of you.

Crap..I'm worried that I might've overpicked my spot. I found(for the first time ever) a spot here with Subbs, and picked all that I saw the first few days. Now, about 2 weeks later, I can't find any. :(

Same thing happened to me flanders, I thought I had over picked the spot, but I just saw 4 new subbs pop up on the other side of the grass pile I left them there, I'll let them sporulate(sp?).

No you did not over pick them....I had the same thing happen...about 15 wet pounds of panns this year...we just haven't had enugh rain lately. I still find them on the real nice lawns, with sprinkler systems...mostly casters though...and the occasional papillonacious and subbs...need two days of some good rain...then we shall see.

Cheers

"...I found dozens of single specimens.  That's what I call hunting.  There are only a few "good" hunters here, even now.  You're certainly in that group.  I would imagine if we hunted together we'd find our styles are similar."

RIP Matt, your friendship and your contributions to the world of fungi will be missed. Unfortunately we never got to hunt together.

Nice idea Moe,

I like the one that Stamets put in PMotW where he shows a woman with a hat that has 4 or 5 dark prints on it that is worn everywhere spreading spores not only on you, but on everyone and everything you pass.

I had an idea to inoculate wood chips in city parks with woodlovers like Ps. cyanescens.
