Humicola vs Cobweb..
    #7500857 - 10/09/07 09:03 AM (16 years, 5 months ago)

Reading around, i've seen a couple of mentions of a potentially beneficial, and at least not detrimental, mold called humicola.  I haven't, however, seen any photos of it... only heard that it is sometimes mistaken for cobweb.  I can't even find a clear image on google.

This isn't regarding a particular problem, so there are no photos... it's just curiousity, for future's sake if anything.

Is there an easy way to tell early on which is which?
Is there any benefit to letting humicola continue to grow if spotted?
Is humicola a common contaminant to encounter?

You've got me on this one. I read a couple of articles, but don't see how it would be beneficial to mushrooms. You can get a few pictures by typing 'humicola image' into google.

in re-reading the thread i initially encountered.. it said that humicola was beneficial in the making of compost, nothing to do w/ actual cultivation. i just crossed wires...

one thread did have a quote from TMC that said that it appears tha humicola has no real effect on fruiting..
