I was going to put in a thread yesterday about how I the wild patches of cyanescens I've found in past have no fruits or only a few pins...but I decided to get off my ass go check some more places. I know of a site where city/utility crews place wood chip pile before using them in landscaping in parks or whatever, which I've checked many times in the last two seasons and found none in the whole area. Within the last year though they used all the chips and laid down grass sod. Anyway I found a good size patch of the biggest cyanescens I have found in years, hidden away under some thick blackberrys. Better yet it looks as if the patch was disturbed and probably mixed in with more chips and relocated by the city crews just doing their jobs. My guess is that patch has been in that spot for a while, but was heavily disturbed and took a few years to build up strength to fruit. This is in Lynnwood area. I will try and get a hold of dig. camera to take some pictures.
By the way I also learned this morning that a patch of cyans I thought be quite small is actually spread throughout a trail of hog fuel (this is what I've always heard it called, I believe its red ceder, used often as a bedding in horse pastures and such). I've assumed that cyans were not likely to grow in ceder, let alone thrive.

they'll tollerate many conifers provided they are well leached of terpenes and resins. cedar tends to hold onto it's volotiles for ages, a feature that makes or an ideal wood for outdoor building such as decks. none the less, i've seen a few posts of P. cyanescens growing in cedar the past couple of years.
for you guerrilla enthusiasts out there, keep in mind that P. pelliculosa will grow from fir litter that still smells profusely like kerosene. they might be ideal for introduction to public areas where more suitable woods are not used.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

they grow well in fir chips. Most places are now landscaped in forest by product aka fir chips. These chips are being dyed and used instead of bark. it is a very good thing
-------------------- Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.

most public parks are landscaped, at least n part with whatever tree species happens to come down in a storm and needs to be cleared away.
