Check out My Automated Setup!
    #7501616 - 10/09/07 01:11 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

I just finished my terrarium setup and decided to post pics to see what you guys think of my whole setup. I've put a lot of hours into this and a lot of money too.

This picture is of my terrarium, I have six one inch holes drilled evenly around the terrarium covered with hepa filters.

This picture is showing my blue led lighting system. They have 4 wide spectrum blue led lights on each stick. I have 4 terrariums total and have all of the lighting systems hooked up to a timer to allow 12on/12off.

This picture shows the inside of my terrarium with a digital thermometer and hydrometer mounted in each. Also there is a clear plastic tube that runs the length of my terrarium with small holes punched in it for my air exchange (will explain in following pics).

This picture is of my air pump system. I have 2 100 gallon air pumps which each have two outputs. Each of the four outputs go to each of my four terrariums via airline tubing. The top has two hepa filters fastened air tight to the top so that all air is cleaned before entering the terrarium.

This picture is of my Tropicare humidifier. The third air pump inside the last pic was a 40 gallon one hooked up solely to this. It then splits into four sections of tubing and goes to each of the four terrariums. My terrariums constantly have a humidity of 99% through this humidifier.

Here is a picture of my Tub-In-Tub incubator. It is a 50 gallon container with three aquarium heaters mounted on the bottom put onto a single thermostat to allow the temperature to constantly be around 85 degrees. It also has a water pump to keep water from going bad.

And finally, here is my glovebox for now. I am thinking about mounting a hepa filter on the side to allow air flow, but for now it works nicely

So, this is my setup, and I'm pretty proud of it. Each container gets an air exchange every 30-40 minutes and so far my humidity levels with my casings haven't dropped below 99%. If anyone has any critiques or questions about how it was made, feel free to comment or ask.

Each of the four terrariums houses 6 casings. So far I have been using wild bird seed jars and put vermiculite on the bottom of the casings covered by the wbs, then I've used miracle grow moisture control for the top. I have been getting about a half ounce of dried shrooms per casing. I just started though, and haven't even finished second flush yet.

I've spent around $900 on the whole setup. Kinda pricey, I could have spent less, but I just wanted to make a really nice setup.

Yes, I love the clear plastic automated terrariums. I have 2 with just airstones in 2" of h20/h202 solution on the bottom. According to my analog hydrometer, it just about 82% RH. They're great, but I think I'll need to add a humidifier. How do you like that Tropic-aire one? How much did you pay for it?

for 150 you could have a incubator, glove box, and greenhouse with automated fae and rh control, that would house a minimum of 12 casings, and for 50 bucks more you could have doubled that.

nice setup tho. it looks cool.

Awsome job whosyourberry. Looks like you worked real hard. Only one thing I would change though is those blue LED lights. They wont do anything for you except waste time, money and little energy. You need intense white light from a florescent fixture (above 5000K) on a 12/12 cycle for a deep thick pinset (assuming everything else is perfect). Good luck on your grow.

any air filtering used past spawning is pointless. it's nifty setup. none the less you could have gotten off a lot cheaper with better results fully automated

I love the tropicare, i got it off of amazon.com for $12 plus shipping. It raises my humidity in all four containers to 99%, so it works great. You do need an air pump for it, I'm using a 40 gallon sized one.

many people have tested that theory and for 20 years running the blue spectrum has been proven to give beneficial effects.

You are right. The lighting I suggest is high in the blue spectrum. It is commonly refered to as white light. The blue spectrum in which he is trying to achieve is made from earth phosphurs and has a spectrum range of 500-700nm. Those blue LEDs dont even come close to the correct spectrum or intensity. A standard florescent fixture from lowes with cool white bulbs is the perfect blue spectrum( above 5000k) will give him far superior results than those LEDs he is using.

no, i didn't really need that many aquarium heaters, but i got all three for free, so i figured I could just have them all on the thermostat instead of just one.

As far as the lighting goes, I've read a lot about it on this forum, and the general consensus was running blue spectrum led lights was the best. Even if it isn't the best, lighting doesn't matter the most anyway, so I guess I can deal with it. The pictures don't do any justice for how much light they emit though. The flash kinda makes them look week, but they are bright.

I am only bringing it up again because I feel lighting is very important and can not stress enough how important it is to your grow and pinsets. It can mean the difference between 5-6 pins or 100's of pins. If you dont believe me, do the experiment yourself and you will not be dissapointed. Lighting is just as important as all other factors. A lot of misinformation goes around these threads and this is one subject I will constantly try to correct.

Just dont take my word for it, this is a post from RR in a previous thread.

Lighting is extremely important, and it's important to provide it at the right light temperature and intensity. Look for tubes with a light temperature above 5,000K.

The reason intensity is important is because the light needs to penetrate the casing layer to the substrate below. Frequency is also important with light at the higher end of the spectrum, such as natural daylight fluorescent with a light temperature between 6,000K and 7,500K providing the best results. Cool white fluorescent tubes are generally in the 5,000 Kelvin range, and regular incandescent bulbs run about 3,000K, which is the worst possible choice.

I agree that is one awsome setup...

But I can't help thinking you could have set up like 3-4 Marthas for that price, out of which your yeild would be monstrous. Not only that, but I feel a Martha is more comfortable to work out of. No bending over, fussing with lids... just my opinion.

Since you pretty much covered every other inch of the terrariams with Hepas, I'd go back and make sure there are no air leaks. It looks like you neglected to seal the gaps between lids and tubs, with the most important being the one that holds the air pumps.

But again none the less, this hobby is about individuality and making your own design, and on that you get a gold star!(:

Nice set up, but $900.00 is way off! My original fruiting chamber cost about 1/4 of that.

My fruiting chamber conversion tek costs about the same as the fruiting chamber http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/7281980/page/0/fpart/1/vc/1

And these are the fruits! http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/7479387#7479387

I don't mean to down your set up at all, but when you are talking about $900.00, I would have spent that on a HUGE professional flowhood rather than on easy fruiting chambers and things of the such.

you setup looks nice too, but keep in mind I built in 4 of the containers that I have pictured. So the cost was including everything for those tubs too.

Totally understood that! I gave you a 5 shroom rating for everything you did. My only dilemma was the total price. In my experience with cultivating, I realized that there is NOTHING, (and I do mean NOTHING!), more beneficial to cultivating than a FLOW HOOD. I can't tell you how many months of failed grows due to contamination I have gone thru. I invested in my home made flow hood for under $300. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/7349699#7349699

I received some critisism but I continue running it 24/7 and have somewhat of a "clean room". I HAVE YET TO FAIL TO CONTAMINATION!!!!

If I had $900.00 to spend on my hobby, I would purchase a REAL LAMINAR FLOW HOOD! Invaluable to this hobby.

Yeah, one of those would be nice, but due to space constraints, I can't go that route. My containers fit into my closet and so nothing sits out. My apartment isn't that big, so I needed something non-obvious, and I think that what I got is perfect for me. Also, about the $900 thing, I got a lot of stuff for free for this, I actually spent around $350, but thats including the pc, spores and other misc. things as well. All I meant was that if I were to have bought everything, it would have been a $900 setup. I got the hepa filters, aquarium heaters, aquarium pump, thermostat, the 4 therm/humidity gauges, air pumps, and my casing containers (24) for free.
