Psilocybe cubensis "B+" on horse manure
    #750094 -

This will be a grow log of a tray of grain spawned (microwave pasteurised) manure.

Here is a box of some of the manure. It has been sitting out in dude?s backyard for the past few weeks.

It was broken up finely into a caserole pan, and it then had some boiling water poured over it (well beyond saturation). Then microwaving began. 700W microwave for about 8 mins, stirred, and nuked again for another 4 or 5. This was removed, stirred, and covered with foil. No care was taken in making sure of proper water content(it was squeezed to the proper level after cooled).

Then on the morning of the 15th, the excess h2o was squeezed out and the manure laid into an aluminum pan.
this was spawned with a quart of fully colonized B+ on millet.

24 hours after spawning:

I will update this log as I find time. I have been busy lately, and it is a pain to have to go over to dude?s house for the pics.

I don?t even know if this will work, as all other attempts with bulk substrate have been pasteurized using the pillow-case method for 2 hours. It may totally succumb to mold in the next few days, we will see...

-----
7/17 update

Here is the tray 24 hours later:

------
7-18 update

24 hours or so later
Going nicely:

Dude may case tonight...

-----
7-19 update

Here is a pic from early this morning:

And this one from this evening:

And a close up, just before casing. Notice the one spot of uncolonized dung which keeps exuding water.

Dude cased tonight with 50-50 which was microwave pasteurized then sprayed to capacity with peroxidated H2O. Tray was covered with AL foil then placed back on the shelf.

-----------
update 7-22

Here?s what dude woke up to this morning.

I told him he should have patched the first areas in the upper right hand corner yesterday, but he is a lazy ass. Anyway, he sprinkled a little casing over the areas that are overgrown (like the upper right),and he sprayed the entire surface, well. Then he gave one good fanning, and covered the tray well (it is going into the dirty fridge afterall). Then he placed it into the fridge. He will take it out and put it into the fruiting chamber either tonight of tomorrow morning, depending upon how "tired he is".

----
updated 7-23

dude took the casing out of the fridge last night(monday 22nd), and put it under fruiting conditions (or as close as possible- it has been in the 90?s lately.. yuck...)

We will see if the temp being so high will have a negative effect on pinning/fruiting. This strain normally pins in 3 or 4 days after cold shock. or up to 10 days w/o cold shock. we will see though.

Already tonight there is a bunch more colonisation of the casing layer.... not a good sign... It will probably result in a less than perfect pinset(something dude is not used to with this strain), and a reduced yield. I can?t wait for Fall...

-------
update 7-24

Here is a pic of the casing in the fruiting chamber this morning.

can?t make out the rhizomorphs very well, but they are reaching up from the casing, all over the tray. Hopefully we will see a bunch of knots by friday evening...

------
update 7-25

Here?s a pic from this morning.

There are a few clusters of hyphal knots around the tray dude said. But he was in a rush, and did?nt have time to take pics of them. The casing is right on schedule, actually a few hours ahead of his (usual) isolate. Not bad, he took the casing out of c.s. on the night of the 22nd, and can already see knots on the morning of the 25th.

This should turn out to be a very nice pinset/flush afterall...

-----
update 7-26

Well, pins galore... near perfect pinset. They are very small now, but within the next ten or so hours he should be able to get a good pic of them. Within the next few hours, he will drop the humidity for fruiting.

more to come soon...

----
update 7-27

as of 10:00 AM

I don?t know what is wrong with the camera... The settings must?ve been changed, and haven?t had the time to tweak them...

about 12 hrs later...

wait till tomorrow morning....

----
update 7-28

odd, I thought I updated this this morning... oh well.. here is about 24 hours since the last pic:

------
update 7-29

here they are about 12 hours past the last pic..

and a slightly different angle..

some of the veils have broken, but they are not quite ready for printing. Dude has work today, and he doesn?t want to come home to a tray full of spores... decisions, decisions... maybe he will pick all but the smallest, and hope that they will be where he wants them, by the time he gets home.

---
a bunch were picked right after the previous pic (the right side of the tray), so they wouldnt drop all over the place.

about 12 hrs later. I thought the others still may sporulate, and dude would come home to a black tray, but they ended up maturing just right in those 12 hrs (maybe a little over done)...

he has 26 caps which are printing. 6 or which already have a home.

-----
conclusion:

nuked horse manure works very well, and is much easier than the pillowcase pasteurisation method. Altogether, from spawning to harvest it took 2 weeks. Spawned on the 14th or 15th, and harvested on the 29th. The only problem that I see there is no way to add straw, if you want a straw/manure combo.

I was thinking of having this be an ongoing grow log including following flushes, making clones, and whatever else comes to mind. But I don?t think so...

Anyway, hope you enjoyed the log, and if you have any Q?s? Ask here...

thanks roadkill, nice to be back..

I forgot to add, the tray was covered with Al foil with a few slits scattered through it.

There is some debris scattered throughout the dried dung, and most was removed, but dude wasn't tatally anal about it.

OK, what strain is that? The mycelium is looking very aggressive and healthy.

Cant wait to see the outcome.

Hey angry, how have you been

It is B+ multispore; dude is thinking of putting his isolate to rest, and finding a new one. He has some PR jars as well as some Pink Buffalo jars going now, and he will do the same experiment on them when they are ready(if this one goes well). Dude tells me that there are a bunch of rhizos tonight, and the tray may even be ready to case tomorrow evening or friday. I'll take a look tomorrow, and get some pics up in the morning though.

So this is an isolate you are woking with here? Cool, should have some beautiful fruits.

How deep is the substrate layer in that tray?

No, it is multispore. He didn't use his isolate this time; he wants to find a new one from this multispore batch. Check for some previous posts by me for pics of his B+ isolate.

The substrate layer is only one inch or so. This is his first time using nuked poo, and was worried it would contam, so he just went small this time. He has some big tubs he will spawn, if all goes well (so far it apperars to be).

I'm kind of drunk right now, and so is dude, so he's going to put off taking pics and casing until tomorrow.

The B+ he uses, also gives wonderfull flushes from multispore also!

yep..

dude cased last night with microwave pasteurised 50-50 which he sprayed to capacity with H2O +H2O2 (after the casing was cooled of course).

He spawned a larger tray of dung tonight, which he prepared using the same method as above. He is waiting for the PR and Pink Buffalo jars to be ready so he can try those.

Updates in a few days, just before he cold shocks.

You could always wear gloves...but your fingernails might poke through them. Straw is also a great bulk substrate.

Nice pinset dude has there! I am very impressed I am curious as to what your yeild will be considering your substrate depth. Do you prefer a shallow substrate? I know a dude who likes a deeper substrate. He finds it is more likely to put out large fruits and have a longer life span. With a flush like yours, he may experiment a bit.

Great job bro!

Thanks man.

Dude has had problems with contams in the past when spawning large amounts of bulk substrate. So honestly, this is all he really knows. He does have the process down to get pinsets like this almost every time (at least with this strain), but the fruits do end up being somewhat small. I can't wait for the day to come when he gets a casing with a 6 inch substrate layer, and a pinset like this... I'm sure that in that case, he would prefer the deeper layer

LoL,
OK I was tripping out cause I clicked on the second page of the post, and I thought you were updating the pictures with each post...and Im like where the fuck are the pictures but now I found them.

Man that isa beautiful pinset, they are gonna be hella dense when they are done. See multispore aint that bad afterall!

I like how they are all leaning over towards the light! Cant wait to see them fully mature, probably within the next day or so...B+ seem to grow faster than other strains that Ive come in contact with.

living in the downtown portion of a large city sucks. nearest nursery charges $3.95 per 4qt bag of plaing potting soil... chances of finding horse poo in the area, zero. i guess i'm going to have to make a road trip very soon ... those things are amazing, keep it up!! -b
