HMC = Quality Compost

High Mountain Compost is the real deal.
I started spawning my jars about four days ago. Used 2 half pint jars to each lb of HMC. Anyway, I stopped spawning them after using 20 jars (about 1/3 of what I had) because I realized they were all wrong. None of them were 100% colonized, in fact, after breaking them up it was apparent that there wasn't a whole lot of growth beyond the surfaces. Also the water content was all messed up or something, they were all mushy and didn't crumble as much as they squished (thank you Mycopath). They were all messed up thats what I'm getting at, but it might have been my fault somehow, I wasn't using an incubator so the water content wasn't distributed as evenly as it would have been if there was more heat.
Anyway, onto the point. I checked these bags and after only three to four, maybe five days they are showing incredible mycelium growth. I mean really good looking too, and they are not in optimal conditions, probably a little too cold. I have never seen such fast colonization.
There is just not enough good things I can say about HMC as a company either. A. Great Customer Service B. Really Fast Shipping C. Perfect Water Content D. Good Earthy Smell
My Conclusion: This stuff is worth every penny. I will never use anything else unless I'm forced to, at gunpoint!
Anyone else want to share their experience with this stuff please feel free.
Later guys,
-CT

Wow, nobody also feels this way about HMC, I'm surprised.

I make my own special mycology targeted compost for my work out of my back yard, but I will agree that half-composted compost that has been specifically targeted for the type of species you're trying to grow is the #1 substrate, hands down. Over any kind of manure, although technically in my opinion, manure is nothing more than horse-made compost.
The thing I question though is your implication that a heated incubation period would have had any effect on your water content. That's just not so. If the jars were too wet, they were too wet. Heating them up would have likely only made them contaminate more readily if anything...especially if they were too wet so you probably did yourself a favor.
As for the rave review, I'm just glad you're using compost in general... regardless of vendor.
