welcome my son, welcome to the machine....
    #7500270 - 10/09/07 01:11 AM (16 years, 3 months ago)

does anyone know what this dude, Terrence Witt, is proposing with his Null Physics theory on the universe?

I'm pretty stoned...and reading this --> http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=94861

none of the technical stuff makes any sense to me...I'm down to post #14 and it's 'Schneibster' and Terry talking about it all.

For some reason I want to think that he is postulating that the universe is an entity that has existed forever and will exist forever and is made up of infinitely small universes that are exactly like our infinitely large universe that is also infinitely small.

but that's me being stoned and not knowing anything about physics (except for high school physics).

Quote:

Totality is the simultaneous product of infinite smallness and infinite largeness, exhibiting their combined dimensional content. Infinite smallness lies external to the dimensions of infinite largeness. It is the only way the two can coexist as equivalent paths to nonexistence. What
this means is that the space of our universe is the boundary surface of its own totality:

? THEOREM 2.10 - TOTALITY BOUNDARY {?2.9}
UNBOUNDED SPACE IS THE BOUNDARY SURFACE OF ITS OWN TOTALITY

I don't really know anything about physics either, but I think I am pretty good at visualizing equations. When I was reading this, I couldn't help but think of the ol' One-Sided Coin.. I think you might know what I'm talking about.

I don't think I know what you are talking about. I could guess but I don't even know if I'm thinking in the right sense. Is it some sort of saying or analogy that is pretty common? If it is...I've never heard it.

No, it's just something I visualized once on shrooms, I thought it might have been a common thing like how a lot of people see eyes looking back at them.

The one sided coin was impossible and mind-blowing, it's impossible for me to really imagine it now. I don't want to do it injustice by trying to explain it again, I think I couldn't really explain how it relates to what he said... but I guess it was like both the yin and yang, the border of the coin and the surface, were the foundation for nothigness . It was nothing because the coin had no opposite side? See, I'm just mudding it up now.

what i'm thinking of when you say one sided coin...is like imagining a wall....but there is absolutely nothing on the other side. it's hard to imagine (probably impossible) what nothing actually is (or isn't I mean).

Yeah, I know what you mean. But the one sided coin was incredibly complex and paradoxical, it wasn't just the image of a coin without being able to flip it around and see the other side - it was actually a one sided coin and I could wrap my mind around it.

The closest thing I can relate it to is this idea of the Universe being an open loop which curves back in on itself and the boundary, an infinitely large line, becomes an infinitely dense point and creates a surface which is unbounded

by one sided do you just mean both sides have the same side? they actually are different...when looking at one side the image on the other side is reversed...that's why you don't see a mirror image of the same picture when you flip it over.

if the coin had an arrow on it facing east...and it was a one sided coin it would face east every time you flipped it over...but if you looked at one...and the other person looked at the other side...the other guy would be looking west.

you proposed what he was thinking. you must also think some sort of reason behind that or you wouldn't have guessed at that to begin with.

edit:

i don't' care that this thread straying off topic (not sure if that matters even though i started the thread...pretty sure i can't make up rules just cuz i started a thread).....most tangents eventually(could be a long time) lead back to the original discussion anyway....

I do think there's a reason but it's so obvious that if you can't figure it that far then there's no need for you to know. Think about it a little. Look at your own motivations for things. Humans are basically all alike. That's all I've got to say on this silly subject.

Damn i hate the tone of those snobby physics students at that forum. "omg lol the guy hasn't published anything in (insert random obscure physics magazine here) and there are no mention of academic qualifications AMAGAWD.

"Didn't he google what (insert random published physicist here) said in his book? I for one believe his theory on the grounds of my teacher mentioning him in class once"

The guy may be a nut case and have some of his physics wrong but at least he is a free thinker.

As soon as some random guy gets a masters he all of the sudden think he has the right to belittle everyone else (unless they have a phd in which case they will subscribe to whatever that guy is telling them)

:whatever:

We dont give a shit about him being a free thinker, he can go think freely all he wants.  But him trying to pass off his theories as superior to the standard model?  Thats bullshit.  One thing scientists cannot stand is bullshit.  You know whose a free thinker?  The guys doing string theory, or the guys doing loop quantum gravity, or any other scientist pushing the boundaries of human knowledge, that is free thinking.

Scientific journals are relevant because they are peer reviewed, Im sure thats something absurd to a philosophical student, but in science we actually have to back up what we claim with evidence.  Just because some journal like 'Nature' might be obscure to a cat like you, does not make it any less important to the world.  Enjoy using your computer, Im sure you don't realize however all the irrelevant science that went into it first presented in 'obscure' peer reviewed articles like bloch functions, phonon research, fermi-dirac distributions, tunneling, everything to do with logic gates and VLSI, and many other things that you take for granted.

  But hey, he's a free thinker.
