First: What is the most well rounded program? one that is still capable of creating decent tracks but is not too limited. I have fruity Loops a nd Acid Pro as of now. I don't want to start something I will give up soon finding a better program.
Second: Where do you go about finding more sounds for such said programs?
Third: What about some online guides or e-books to help me start out with the basics.
I hear mixed messages. Some say FL7 is better. Some say acid pro is better. I am more interested in creating some solid hip hop beats as opposed to electronica if that helps.
Thanks everyone.

Well everyone has their own opinion about what program is better. You say you want to make hip hop beats? Then I would suggest Reason, a very powerful and easy to learn MIDI program.
Be sure to download the full version, not the trial.
As for extra add on's and such, I'm not too sure I've never looked into plugin's for Reason. But The program is stacked to begin with though. But if you want to put vocals or record instruments with microphones, you can't do that with Reason. It's strictly MIDI.
For that, I would suggest Cubase (actually I would suggest Pro Tools but it requires hardware to run, thus you need to spend money) Cubase is better because it can be downloaded and learned quite easily. It has a fuckload of things to add on as well, VSTs, etc.
So make the beats with Reason and then export the audio into Cubase and lay down some vocal tracks.
hope that helps

Fruity loops can be a damn powerful tool if used correctly. Like it was stated above, most of the tools are going to do the same thing. The brand name shouldn't really matter at this point. Once you learn one DAW, its going to be pretty easy to learn other ones.
Search for fruity loop forums/acid forums. Learn the tools you have...just because its an affordable set up doesn't mean you can't make some sick sounding tracks off of it. Fruity loops allows for VST plug-ins. (reason does not allow any sort of 3rd party plug-ins (vst..ect) )
Cubase is a nice jump from fruity/acid. It might suck for the first few weeks but your going to love the freedom it provides you.
Some tips:
*Read lots of books. Something your interested in. Theory, Digital audio, sound design...whatever. These are going to seed a lot of terms your going to need to know further down the line.
*Pick up a new instrument/midi keyboard. If you just make beats, grab a keyboard. Its going to open up a vast world of new ideas. If you already have that, pick up something else. Guitar, flute, ect. This will help you bring in new ideas and prospective to your work.
*Find forums and read!
Good luck!

The only programs I'd recommend as a sequencer are Cubase, Protools, Logic, or Ableton. Those will do just about everything you need. Reason is nice but its even better when its rewired to a better sequencer.
