hey guys, this september i am looking for 1 single amanita miscaria, and i think i know hwere to get it. I want to make a sort of statue of if for my room - i want to preserve it so it its hard to the touch and wont rot, so i can place it in a bell jar as a cool centerpiece for my room. Any ideas how i would preserve/solidify it?

You want to plastinate it. Plastination is the removal of all moisture (usually by freeze drying) and then replacing that water with a resin. The result its a durable and natural looking specimen. I want to do this myself, but I don't have a freeze dryer.

They are available but expensive from laboratory supply. You might experiment with placing the mushroom uncovered in a home defrosting freezer. It will more or less freeze dry in a few months. I beleive you need a vacumn chamber to force the resin into the mushroom. None of this is going to be easy.

not exactly a statue, but why couldnt it be sealed in polyuerathe(?) i have seen roses, giant cockroaches from prison, and 4 leaf clovers kept this way. only problem is, it is the shape of the form you set it in, so, if you want it shaped like a shroom, you would have to build a shroom shaped form. but an a.m. would still look cool, in a square, or circular form, imho

Well, plastination is extremly difficult. I highly doubt you could accomplish it. Just dry it out nicely and dip in schlacking. You can get it at hobby stores. It is a clear liquid resin that drys hard and solid.

You could put the mushroom in a jar and fill it with rubbing alchol. I have used this technique to preserve various things for viewing purposes.
