AMANITA idea

hey guys,
this september i am looking for 1 single amanita miscaria, and i think i know hwere to get it. I want to make a sort of statue of if for my room - i want to preserve it so it its hard to the touch and wont rot, so i can place it in a bell jar as a cool centerpiece for my room. Any ideas how i would preserve/solidify it?

I've seen some huge ones over 7" in cap diameter up in VT in the woods.

They'd make a cool display!

I'd coat one thickly in polyurethane. Worth a shot.

Try going to a craft store.They make a spry-on shelac (sp?) that would probably work pretty well. Your only issue is going to be covering the whole thing. You basicaly want to make an air tight covering or you could possibly get rot. Hope it works. Keep us posted!

That "spry-on shelac (sp?)" IS polyurethane.

I know it's the same thing, I just didn't want Mr. Cubensis to go out and buy a paint brush and a quart of poly. to try and paint the mushroom. I just wanted to mention the spray type. Workman had a good idea in a cross post about freeze drying, but I think that might be a little too involved. It'd be cool though. You're right though, great minds think alike!
