Would you case an individual cake?

The reason I ask is because, a week and a half ago, I inoculated 12 jars. Thinking that I would stick to the PF tek with no casing, I didn't label what strain each jar was. Half are PESA, the other in Dixie.
Now, after reading a little about casing, I would do the Coco Coir with more cakes in a tub if I could, but of course the strains would compete for nutrients and my results wouldn't be so great.
My question is, should I case each 1/2 pint cake individually in very small containers? Would the results be worth it? The casing materials wouldn't cost me much if any more than the perlite, so thats not a factor for me.
Also, is there any way at all to tell the difference between colonized PESA jars and colonized Dixie jars?

If you're intent on trying to case them and have coir lying around, I suggest spawning a single jar to some coir/coffee mix and then letting that colonize and THEN casing it. Not only will you get a much larger yield, it's a pretty easy way to step your game up to bulk and the like, without mixing up your strains. otherwise I don't think a 1/2 pint jar has a enough substrate to really justify casing, imo.

Strains don't compete for nutrients. Mushroom mycelium eats its food. That's why substrates get smaller over time. Regardless of the name on the 'strain', they'll mix fine in the same substrate. It's no different from multispore inoculation, which is what you probably started with. I've done it dozens or more times, as have many growers here. RR

K, thanks, looks like I will be casing afterall! I read a post from someone that said you would only get small mushrooms of you mixed. I inoculated the jars separately except for one where i didn't have enough to finish a jar, so one is mixed. I was just in a hurry and thought that there was no need for me to label because I would be able to tell the difference in PESA and Dixie since I wasn't planning on casing. I suppose it will be a bit harder now to tell the difference in the casings, but no worries.
EDIT: This may be a dumb question, Is it possible to keep adding substrate over time and keep on getting flush after flush?

It would be pointless, half pint cakes are hardly worth useing as they just dont put out enough for the time and effort, You can re-use a empty butterdish try to crumble and case to, they give off a fiarly decent surface area for pins and sit deep enough for a 500ml cakeand a casing layer. I had nothing but succesful crops with this method until I moved onto bigger and better things, i.e rye/millet + bulk.
Another use for your half pinters would be to test the B/E (Bio-Efficency) of your bulk substrate by spawning to a small container, its a good way to practice for bulk substrates. Anywho

So I've got 12 1/2 pint cakes, its been a week and a half with no contams, how many containers should I be able to fill with coco casing, and how many cakes to each container?
I thinking, 3 cakes with 4 small containers. Do i need to consolidate them more than this?
