So, a technical question for a monotub.

Okay, I've currently got a nice tub of sheep manure colonizing. Only issue is that I didn't drill the holes in the side yet, as I heard that you could just drill them in when they're fully colonized and ready to be cased/fruited.
But, the more I've read the more people seem to say the never open up the tub, at all costs. Which I need to do in order to drill the holes i need/shove in the polyfill.
So, I know i have to open it when it's done colonizing regardless to get those holes in, but what elevated dangers to my grow, will I be facing? If any more than normal.

You can put tape on the outside to catch most of the shavings and then just use micropore tape instead of polyfil. Just do it in a clean area with no air moving, and spray lysol real good and let settle before you open it, you should be ok.

Iffin you wait until it's 100% completely colonized, then you shouldn't have to worry about opening your tub. The mycelium (why the hell does spell check STILL catch mycelium??) will be strong enough to resist contams from a simple opening of the lid. People FAE by opening the lid and gusting their FCs, so exposing it to open air, when it's 100%, will cause no problems. Other than that be careful when you drill the holes and try not to get any in the myc!

Thanks HHC, I figured as much, but just wanted to double check.
Yeah, Wiccan it does grow on sheep manure, and quite well too it seems! I mixed in a little bit of coir as well so it would be a little 'fluffier' but so far so good. It's a fairly 'risky' spawn ratio, but the mycelium seems to be tearing through it and it's only been about 30 hours.

haha, you'd think that but no. It was all the local store had, and I didn't feel like going any further to grab cowmanure or the like. I had heard this worked, so I figured I'd give it a try.
