Family Guy- How to kill comedy in four easy steps
    #7497176 - 10/08/07 11:47 AM (16 years, 3 months ago)

Jesus Christ, I wonder if the creators realize how retarded this show has gotten. I watched the new one last night and sat there the entire time with a big frown on my face, waiting for it to be over with.

Looking back at the first 3 seasons, I can't see how they don't realize how out of control and ridiculous the show has gotten. Every once in a while there is a good episode (when Peter finds his real Irish dad), but the rest of the new ones are just plain garbage.

They lost it after they went off the air and came back.

I wouldn't be surprised if their best writers happened to get canned during that break, because it seems like they've just been attempting to rehash the same shit over and over since then; except now their comedic timing is terrible.

Look how long it took "the crowd" to realize that Bush is not a healthy choice for the country.

Denial is a powerful thing, and most of the american public relies on it for stability.

There's a certain "curve" if you will... a certain crescendo that must be reached before the crowd-followers will unanimously shift their opinions on any given subject.

Family Guy is one such subject.

I'll watch a 4 day long marathon of Family Guy's worst episodes while shoving a hot poker down my pants before I ever watch another minute of that show again.

I thought that the term "bleeding from your eyes" was an exaggeration before I watched that crap.

I didn't care much for the tourettes episode. It was mildly humorous the first time I watched it and I got sick of it by the second time around.

Nothing can beat Hell on Earth 2006.

i laughed my ass off watching the star wars season premier, however last night wasnt as good. it had its moments. i hope the rest of the season gets better.

I'm glad someone agrees with me.  I've watched the three episodes of the most recent family guy and I can't even remember giggling once (maybe once in the Star Wars parody, but that's it).  It's a shame too because I remember at times I would roll on the floor laughing at some of the earlier seasons.

It's not that they ran out of ideas though. They have plenty of great ideas, it's just they've completely ruined their method of comedy.

Family Guy is still funny, but I can agree the last few episodes werent like the classics. That anne frank shit is an example of how they have fallen off the cliff of shock/funny that they have always used to make everyone laugh. Sunday's episode wasnt great, but they will make more funny shows. If you think you can do better, write a show. cunts.

I completly stopped enjoying family guy once the south park 'cartoon wars' was aired. Family guy is just not funny anymore. Anyone can hire manitees to throw idea balls into a basket.

my god, it's amazing how good south park has always been. i really can't think of an episode that i disliked... it seemed all of them had at least a couple of hilarious moments.

I was starting to get worried about South Park after the whole Cartoon Wars episodes. I didn't find those episodes enjoyable at all, but then the 11th season really brought it back on track.

Just reading the info for the new espisode playing tomorrow makes me laugh.

Every once in a while there is a good episode (when Peter finds his real Irish dad), but the rest of the new ones are just plain garbage.

sorry to hear you aren't enjoying it

personally, I think the show is consistently hilarious and look forward to watching it every week.  Its one of a handful of sitcoms I enjoy.  I mean, you wanna see crap, look at all the other shit on TV: stupid-ass Jeff Foxworthy and Howie Mandel game shows, staged reality BS, and live-action drama and sitcoms that seem to be written by highschoolers, for highschoolers.

Compared to the rest of TV, I think Family Guy still stands out.

I would have to say the same thing about Southpark. While the show SOMETIMES has a good episode, they just take every show way to far. I loved the first 4-5 seasons of south park, especially the x-mas episodes, but IMO, that show needs to be canned. They went from trying to make a political or social point to "how far can we take this".

just because a show isn't as good as it used to be, doesn't mean it 'needs to be canned', especially when that show is still better than 90% of television, even in its worn out state.

Also, a lot of times its not the show that gets old, but rather its the audience. Honestly, I don't think Family Guy or South Park have changed much since they began. It just seems like it to some people because those people have gotten older and their tastes have changed.

My little brother is just starting to get to the age where he can dig shows like FG. He certainly wouldn't want them to be canceled.

I agree that maybe my perception has changed, but whenever I throw on an old South Park episode, I laugh my ass off. I feel the newer episodes just take things too far. The older ones seemed to hit the comedy nail right on the head without going overboard.

I hear ya. That Simpsons movie disappointed the hell out of me, and sometimes I think they should put that show out of its misery.

but then I think of what the television landscape would be like if that show were gone, and I find that thought more depressing than watching a slightly worn out show.

we need the influence of shows like the Simpsons for the younger generation that is growing up right now. Otherwise it would be 100% 'Blue Collar TV' or whatever mainstream garbage they have now.

I completely agree with you there. I can't believe some of the shows that are on. Survivor NEEDS to go. Are you dumber than your child needs to go. Most of the shows on FOX need to go. "Reality" television just makes me sick.

Sorry, I did not mean to derail this thread.
