Anyone else suffer from an endocrine system problem called sleep paralysis?
I do and once i got over the fear of death its like free drugs.
What happens is i become awake while dreaming but can not move (not even open my eyes). I can control my dream or change it. And when i do wake up im not quite sure if its actualy me waking up or me dreaming I woke up (until i ACTUALY wake up, then i know). The coolest thing to me is that i am 100% awake but still dreaming (full on visual dreaming). wich makes me believe that the dream is real. Not like "wow that dream was so real" but actualy being awake during your dream.
This happens because the chemicals that control my muscle movement when im sleeping are all messed up. This only happens when i go to sleep and am over tired (like a after an all night rave). Its called sleep paralysis but it should be called Awake dream paralysis..
Just wondering if anyone else suffered from this.

ok... I have a theory about it.. I have found that it was more prevalent durring my "ecstacy years" (not while on the drug mind you) and i think that the use of that specific drug was a "trigger". I have not rolled in a while (only about twice a year0 and hav not had an episode in forever.

i think it is that you are sleeping but not yet at baseline. the ordinary dreamstate is "stoned".
after speedy drugs this is norm but also the day after salvia can be like that the main drug effect is over but something keeps you higher than baseline (afterglow?).

Slimz yeah i've been getting sleep paralysis for about a decade now.
You ever get wierd floating sensations or you feel like you can move your limbs about? SP is strongly associated with the OOB phenomenon.
The first few times i had it i got associated hallucinations like spiders on the walls, jellyfish in the air etc. and i thought i was dying. It took a visit to a neuroscientist to figure out what it was.
I don't believe at all that its got anything to do with ecstacy use, i was about 15 when i started getting it and i didn't try e for a few years after that.
It's got to do with a slgiht malfunction in the brainstem that's associated with sleep states. The hallucination aspect is just a manifestation of whatever you expect or believe you should see, or what you fear could happen. In that way its like an alternate state of consciousness like one that drugs induce without actually having anything to do with drugs.

Its a slow process (the extraction) first I convert the juice into thoughts thru a special process i call "Written (or typed) communication" and eventually the people who "read" these thoughts end up slightly enlightened...
Or you just squeeze my head real hard..

This has happened to me a few times, the last was over a year ago and I'd like to never repeat it. Exactly as you described as well but the thing that really gets me is this feeling like your throat is clogged with some thick substance and isn't allowing you to breathe, all the while wishing you could move or wake up but you're just stuck there, it's incredibly terrifying. I'd relate it to a bad salvia trip.

yeah sleep paralysis is more like when you sleeping and you wake up but you cant move your body. so your kinda dreaming but more so just stuck in your bed. lucid dreaming is dreaming awake, i like do that sometimes but mine dreams i like to have are the kinda were im kinda lead by myself from the future cause then i get to live em.

I've only experienced sleep paralysis once, and it was fucking crazy. I could tell I was awake, cause I could see my room, but I couldn't move. It felt like someone was literally sitting on my chest and holding me down.
I looked over at my door, and I see my brother walk in and then just disappear. This was just a hallucination, which only made the whole "Am I dreaming, or am I awake" thing more confusing. After being able to wiggle my fingers I was finally able to move and woke up. Shit was weird.
It's only happened once, and it was kind of scary, so here is hoping it doesnt happen anytime soon.

i hate that.
it used to happen to me in school when i was really tired in the mornings. it could have been cause i was taking 100mg a seroquel every night.
i would have to like rock my body back & forth to get out of it. it scared the shit out of me the first couple times it happened.

I experience it once or twice a week, it can be a lot of fun but not when you have things to do during the day and you just cant get up from your nap. A good trick to snap out of it is to try and move your pinky finger, works pretty well for me. To be exact one what your experiencing is a wild, which is a wake initiated lucid dream, thats why you have full on scenery you can interact with. If you just get visuals of random objects colors and random noises that is merely you being in the hypnogogic state which can actually be just if not more fun. I had no idea that sleep paralysis is result of the endocrine system, ill have to look into that.
Its weird your link says sleep paralysis is the hypnogogic state except i can definitely move during my hypnogogic state but i can also have sleep paralysis and initiate the visuals of hypnogogic state separately.

i suffer from sleep paralysis pretty regularly. it even just happend earlier this afternoon when i tried to take an afternoon nap. i believe it's that your body is physically tired enough to crash but you're brain is still too active or stimulated to actually enter a full on sleep mode or at least that's what it seems like to me.
and yes it is very much so like a trip. sometimes it can be crazy experience but a lot of times for me it's just really scary since you can't move anything and i start seeing creepy images and visuals but i can't do anything to stop it. a lot of times i'm able to move my head just enough to wake up but as soon as i do that i usually will fall right back into that state because i'm not awake enough to fully get up.
that's cool a lot of other people have this, cause i've explained this to my friends a lot and no one ever seems to no what i'm talking about

Sleep paralysis is one of the craziest and scariest things that has happened to me thus far. I used to have a problem with this a couple years back, and I have to say it was pretty wild. It is like you are awake and asleep at the same exact time, aware yet unaware. You want to move so bad but some force is keeping you there against your will. It is almost near impossible to describe the experience to someone who has never had this problem, kind of like trying to explain the psychological phenomenon of synaesthesia to someone; it's just not happening. I don't know how I developed this problem, if I knew I might try to do it again. It's almost like a trip in itself
You might compare it somewhat to a "k-hole" of sorts, although I've never done ketamine and couldn't truly make the comparison from personal experience. However, from reading up on it, it sounds to me like sleep paralysis is nothing more than a biological and/or natural k-hole. Interesting stuff...

I suffered from SP for more than a year, but apart from the out of body experiences it wasn't really like drugs. And when I'd feel the "presence", it was the worst feeling of terror I ever experienced, ever.

My case of SP was almost nightmarish and surreal in a way. I guess maybe there's different degrees of SP, you're right though it's nothing like drugs but it's still scary.

quite often. it freaks me out every time and i love it for that. most times i can feel it coming on... it usually happens to me right before i fall asleep. a little movement at the right moment will delay its effects, though if i wait too long ill get stuck in it. its a pretty eerie feeling, and is usually accompanied by dark and spooky thoughts of death and/or evil spirits and demons and such.
sometimes ill play with it as if it were a game. i like to see how long i can skate the line between full blown sleep paralysis and the kinda half awake half asleep delusional world i find myself in right before it kicks in.
ive also found that it has a higher chance of happening if i try to fall asleep on opiates/benzos.

I've had this twice. Weird isn't it?
First time I was hovering about a yard above my bed. Looking down I saw my body lying on the bed. Actually, I was under the covers, but I could see my body on top. I was with-it enough to realise that what I was seeing was wrong. I felt awake and aware. I tried to wake my girlfriend by calling to her, but the only sound that came out was a kind of throaty hissing-gurgling sound. The funny thing was, I never woke up - that is, as I re-entered my body, gained the ability to move and got out of bed, there was no point in time when I woke up, the experience was continuous.
The second time it happened was very strange. I won't go into the whole story (unless someone asks me to), but I'll just say there was a time when I was lying on my side looking at my room. I couldn't move anything including my eyeballs, so I was looking in one direction. I heard throaty groaning sound right behind me, and it was getting closer, but I couldn't move or do anything. (No girlfriend this time). Freaky. It was like something was in bed with me, snuggling up behind me then actually merging with me. Well freaky. Then I could move my body again. It was about a week later before I saw it from the other perspective: the thing behind me was my body, and I was merging with it.
Both times, the paralysis seemed to be linked to the fact that me and my body were in slightly different places. When we got back together, that's when I was able to move again.
Shit, life's interesting

i remember one time not too long ago. i had been doing a little oxy that night and decided to go to bed. i felt it coming on, fucked around with it like i usually do for a few minutes. then i found myself falling into it pretty quick so i decided to get out of bed. walking around my house i couldnt feel my body. kinda like when your foot "falls asleep", that was my body. kinda tingly and numb...
anyway, i remember getting very frustrated with this, i started jumping around a bit, trying to get my circulation going again. after a few minutes i started to freak out, and started slaming my arms against the wall in hopes ro regain some feeling.
i then woke up in my bed.
that whole time i thought i was awake, i had slipped away into sleep and didnt even realize it. it was some weird shit.

i have a hypnosis tape that sometimes gets me in a very deep but lucid trance, and it feels like i'm very close to dreaming. do you think it could be possible to induce sleep paralysis somehow?

I lucid dream almost every night... Im pretty sure Im a sex addict cause every time I realize im in my dream I search for some hot chick to bang. Seeing visions of demons and evil creatures are common experience during sleep paralysis. People used to believe demonic creatures called maras or mares would sneak into your room at night and sit on your chest thus causing the difficulty in breathing that is common during sleep paralysis. This is where the word nightmare was derived from. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mara_%28folklore%29

Although I do have a lot of control over my thoughts during sleep paralysis, my mind tends to wander a lot and frightening images my mind. Sleep paralysis can be an amazing experience if you can remain in control, but really frightening if your mind naturally wants to try and trip you out. Even when I smoke weed a lot of times, I try to trip myself out in the same way even if I don't want to. It's hard to explain what I mean but I'm pretty sure a lot of you can relate.

I was just reading an article today that directly relates to this. During REM sleep your brain disrupts signals for muscle movement, otherwise when you were walking in your dream, you would walk in your bed as well. Im guessing that what happens is you awake right in the middle of REM sleep when the chemical disruption is still present... Lemme try and find the article.
