I just picked these a couple hours ago, and am waiting for the the spore test, but I thought I would post everything else now, and just add a picture of the spore test later.
I live in Southwest Washington, and picked these in a cow pasture. They are brown, and have lighter brown gills and they are attached. The stems vary in length from one inches for the small ones, to three inches for the larger ones. They appear to have the 'nipple shape', but you can never be too sure. I will post the results of the spore test as soon as I can.

no, sorry. So, veterans, is it necessary to have a certain amount of experience with the board before giving responses and ID's? Thought I'd save you the trouble on this one.

k. sounds good. I'll play it safe and ID the obvious ones. I'll leave any deriding and rules referring to you guys though.

Once you know a lib you will always know a lib. Its the others that look so much like another that are the ones left to the guys that really know what they are on about. I'm new to this forum but you can see there are some top spotters on here.

i've been posting this all over the board the last few days, but when hunting semies, look for slimy caps [you'll notice they are shiny when you see them unless they are drying out]. when you see them, check for a rubbery texture if they are moist. look at the gills. if they are browish grey, becomming purple brown as spores begin to form, check to see if you can peel a gelatin like membrane from the cap. if so, you have a Psilocybe in your hands. if it was growing from grasses or sedges, check to see if the stipe is very plient. try to wrap it around your finger. does it break? if not, you have Psilocybe semilanceata in your hands. mor than half of these will often show blue bruising. this may already be present, it may appear quickly or it may not even occur for several hours or until well into the drying. if the stipe breaks relatively easily but some or all specimens still bruise blue, you likely have Psilocybe strictipes, and at least have some active grassland Psilocybe. it is not uncommon to find both of these species in the same hunt, even without noticing.
i have found one field that produced P. semilanceata, P. strictipes, Panaeolus subbalteatus and what was either Psilocybe sierrae or P. fimetaria [the latter two in a portion of the field that had recently been used to house a goat].
--------------------
Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
