why are cubensis psychedelic?
    #7495744 - 10/07/07 06:53 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

Why are cubensis or other species of the like psychedelic? Is it one way for the organism to protect it self and others of being eaten? Or a way for nature to enlighten the living?

I think its a defense mechanism... for example, if you were a little raccoon, and have a mushie, youll be seein shit for a while, and if you dont get eaten while youre all messed up, youll remember that the experience after eating those little mushrooms wasnt so pleasant.
But that whole plan kinda backfired when us humans found it... we ate it once, and kept coming back for more!

i believe that they were created to ultimately evolve all life.

it's a symbotic relationship. Appealing to humans aids on their survival and they bank partially on the survival on the human species and animals they appeal to. They were put here by some non human force to make life more interesting. Open up the storage doors on the universe. If it was a defense mechinism they'd simply be poisionous.

Rather than being a defense mechanism, perhaps it's the opposite - like berries or fruit, something the organism makes to attract those who will eat it, so that they will spread it around. Who knows though. I suspect the reason plants are psychedelic has nothing to do with us. Perhaps they make those alkaloids to please themselves. Psilocybes are party animals! :smirk:

I think its possible that its just because we are so similar in structure.
All DNA / RNA on this planet is incredibly close.

You could consider a human a psychedelic if you ate certain parts of it.

Some plants produce addictive harmful or lethal drugs, these are not for human enlightenment. Some produce drugs that alter thought process without harming the human.

Theres no clear cut answer.

But consider that all life on this planet is based on the same (DNA/RNA) and you can see why some lifeforms can alter their chemicals by consuming similar chemicals in other lifeforms.

it used to blow me away to know that these intence psychedelics expiriences were possible, with their sensations so alien to normal waking conciousness. but really i guess its no more mind boggling than anything else. this whole trip (human life) is mind boggling, im so suprised and blown away that nothing could really suprise me anymore. so my answer to the OP as to why is a simple, why not?

why is the psychedelic cubensis!!!!???

why is the psychedelic:
synthetic
cactus
mushroom
other mushroom (agaric)
and weed

and why is the weed so very different than the others? what planes of consciousness do they evoke, how do they differ, how are they similar

are some benevolent, neutral, malevolent? many interesting questions can be asked about it,

interesting to see the different angles

i like the mushrooms came from space idea

That explains why you choose to consume them, not why they exist. Is there any reason anything exists? Or is it simply existing, making what it will out of the supreme mystery of being?

Flowers are pretty and have nectar to let the bees pollinate them.

Mushrooms have psilocybin so that people will seek them out and sell their spores on the Internet

If you are really looking for answers study Toltec, as it is understood by some. Carlos Castaneda is a good author to start with. Just read the books in order. Ethnobotanical vendors carry many different types of Toltec books. Agree or disagree with those books is fine, but they are so damn fascinating. I am reading The Fire From Within right now (7th book in Castaneda series). Good stuff.
