Okay so within the next few weeks I will be gettin some Rue and Mimosa.
As for the diet, I've read that you need to diet anywhere from 24hrs to 2 weeks. So whats the deal with rue?
The list of foods you can't have is gigantic, is there just a list of foods that I CAN eat?
I would go to the aya website but they're kind of a bunch of assholes and will flame me for not using "the real ingredients" etc etc.

rue is a reversible MAOI, you don't really need to worry about it, just don't go too crazy.

No. Eating lots of food is not a good idea, for one, let alone dairy products. Avoid medication or drugs of any kind for a week before, including alcohol and caffeine. Eat a light dinner, go to sleep, wake up, brew the Ayahuasca and drink it. Don't eat anything else- it'll just make the trip take longer to kick in, and you'll almost definitely vomit it back up anyway.
Just don't eat copious amounts of sugar, or consume medication, alcohol or caffeine for a week or so before you drink Ayahuasca and you'll be ok.
Brew the mimosa in a large amount of water, and keep brewing it and heating it until it's boiled down to around a quarter pint, then just down it in one mouthful. That way, by the time you experience the foul after taste it's all down you anyway.

I had good results with fasting 6 hours before and 6 after. I drank coffee whenever I wanted to with no problem. A full week is better but not necessary. 6 hours IS

To all the people who are overly careful:
You are giving the instructions for diet when on a non-reversible MAO-I, syrian rue is not one of these, it is reversible. I have eaten a whole pack of ramen noodles about 5 hours after taking rue and I am alive to type this, never even got a headache. I've also had caffeine during an experience with no difficulties what so ever.
Also, Aya does not last 3 hours, its more like 6-12 with a good brew.

Okay so basically what you're saying is that if I just take the brew in the morning and don't eat that day i'll be fine? (then wait till the next day to resume my regular diet)

Ok so if you dont have to take the diet for syrian rue that seriously, what about the diet for caapi?
I'm going to take my trip on saturday and since last friday i've only been eating soy free bread and drinking nothing but water. I'm just trying to take this as seriously as possible. i know that i am allowed other food (though i'm not really sure what other food) but it's kind of a test of my dedication to the experience.
So my question is how strict does the caapi diet really have to be?
And another question, the bread i'm eating is soy free but it does contain trace amounts of molasses and apple cider vinegar, is this a problem?
-------------------- Oh, do not ask "What is it?" Let us go and make our visit.

There are a few reasons for a diet before taking ayahuasca. One is the MAOI interaction. Plants like Caapi and Rue are way more forgiving than pharmaceutical MAOIs though. It seems like most people who abstain from the banned food the day of and don't eat within a minimum of 3-4 hours of drinking the ayahuasca are fine. I'm not recommending this though. The less chances you take the better.
Another reason people follow this rigorous diet is to sensitive themselves to the Aya and show it respect. Most of us Americans eat so much food that we don't really feel the effects that the different foods are having on us. Shamans follow a food diet and a spiritual dieta. They abstain from sexual excitement for a time before taking Ayahuasca and follow other behavioral guidelines.I recommend you browse the ayahuasca forums, and read this thread in particular. I'd say if you can stick to the diet your on the go for it. It can only help, and it is quite possible that you will get a stronger trip.

From my experience, simply fasting at least 6 hours before hand works, without avoiding certain foods. But for your first voyage, sticking to the traditional ayahuasca diet works wonders on many levels. For one week before my first experience, I ate nothing but rice and fruit, avoided sex, drank only water and orange juice, and fasted 24 hours before. After this regimen, I felt immensely altered before even taking the aya. It does something spiritually that is beyond description. I began having visions BREWING the caapi. It goes much deeper than mere chemicals.

Rice is very good.
No yogurt.
Fresh fruits are very good, too.

That's right.
You get out of Ayahuasca what you put into it.

Very well put!
Not to be a jackass, but I think you should use B. caapi and Psychotria for your first Aya' brew... It's much better.
