12in wide x 17in long x 10in depth
and I have 3 inches of perlite in there, I don't think I need 5 inches cause of the size of my fruiting chamber. But question along with this. I just made my terrarium yesterday and put my first cake in there is it going to take a couple of days to register the actual humidity or is it right after i went to bed it says 91%. I know my thermometer isnt crap its a weather channel forcast thermometer 40 bucks!!! home depot. Only ones that read 95-100% humidity everything else said 0-90%
So whats up do I need to add more perlite or just wait and see?

I think you mean hygrometer. Anyways, do you have holes drilled in your fruiting chamber. It needs air flow to evaporate the water from the perlite. If you have to many it can dry it up as well. If you currently have holes try taping up a few at a time until desired humidity is maintained. Hope you get it right.

Try wrapping your device in a damp towel for 1 hour. Take it out and see what it reads. A damp towel will create a 100% rh environment and then you will be able to tell if your device doesn't read correctly. Unless you are using a masons hygrometer, your device will have some variation.

Well with cakes you should have about 95% but you will be fine at 93. Cakes can take a while to do there thing, so try and be patient. When I grew my first cake it took almost 2 weeks before pinning started and I was always thinking it wasnt going to work. I know its not optimal but I bought a ultrasonic humidifier from the pet store for 35 bucks and run it on a timer for 1 min every two hours. Works great. I have a ton of holes in my chamber as well though.

Thermometers read temperature, not humidity. Hygrometers read humidity. Get a hygrometer and calibrate it properly. RR
