Greenhouse for winter
    #7492286 - 10/06/07 06:34 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

I am in the midwest of the USA. I was wondering if I keep my cacti in a heated greenhouse during the winter if I have to make them go dormant? Would the winter sun be enough light for the cacti to keep growing through the winter?

The sun would be ok.But whats the temp going to be in the greenhouse? If its going to be like in the 60s or lower your going to need to keep them dryer an no ferts.

depends on how cold really... if its going to be below about 60f then they will go dormant( as the above poster said)

u could quite easily let it get colder than that though... cos the winter sun wont really be strong enough to give good growth anyway...

Well I will have the greenhouse heated to about 75-80F for other plants anyway. So I guess not very good growth is better than no growth.

If I supplement with good flouro lights would that be enough or would I need HID lights. If this starts to get too expensive i might just let them go dormant.
