When I do a liquid culture I dont even put the hole in the lid.
I simply put a clean gallon bag over the jar and crack it open
(after spraying the crap out of everything) then put the needle through the bag and into the crack in the lid. Spray solution
inside and close it up nice and tight. I also only fill the jars
3/4 the way so there is plenty of air to get things going. If things slow down along the way i just put another bag over the jar and crack it again to let some more air in. I add alittle peroxide at that point most the time aswell.
lol, I know there is better ways to do it, this just works for me though:grin:

i would use rtv silicone instead of goop for your inoc points. I always just use red rtv for injection ports and i cut 1/4" holes in the lid and silicone tyvek to it. Not even one contam out of 5 quarts and 12 1/2 pints, all grain. quarts pc'ed, 1/2 pints boiled. this has worked wonderfully for lc's as well. keep in mind that water slowly evaporates through the tyvek, but that'd take like a month to reach a significant amount and mine are used by then. it's up to you.
also, i may be wrong, but i think those valves release pressure, im not sure how good at gas exchange they are. keep in mind i havn't personally seen this valves you have. i've done multiple lc's my way with no contams as well.

LCs don't need gas exchange. I just have one silicone injection point

wrong. they do need gas exchange. Most small lc's are succesful because it dosent require much. but people who do large lc's need some sort of port for gas exchange. you can cultivate lc's with no port but if you do port, you will have far superior results.

Also there is no need for the peroxide. People use it for fear of contams but in reality the only place I would use peroxide is in a spray bottle to get rid of cobweb on your casing or maybe in your humidifier resivor.
