Lazy Culture + Ganoderma ID
    #7491273 - 10/06/07 12:47 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

Hey Friends,

I have a clone I took from a wild ganoderma applanatum on agar. It definitely isn't contaminated by the naked eye. I put it to agar 15 days ago and it is between the size of a quarter and a half dollar now.

On the other hand, I put some oyster clone onto mycelium 6 days ago and the plate is 90% covered by healthy mycelium.

These two were together through incubation so it isn't a heat issue.

Do you guys have suggestions to liven up this lazy culture? It looks very weak, neither thick nor ropy just barely colonizing. Would sterilizing a small piece of wood and dropping it on there liven its spirit? Or would a transfer maybe revive what vigor it must have once had to overpower foreigners on the fallen tree I found it on?

Also:

Here is another ganoderma I just made medicine from. Do you suspect this to be g. tsugae or lucidum? Found living on a still healthy red oak, 30 miles west of Lake Michigan

Since it was growing from an oak, I would say it is lucidum.

Incubation? These are cool weather species. Never incubate. Colonize at room temperature. How many transfers have you made? There's always contaminants in any outdoor clone. You have to make a series of transfers to get a clean culture. Until then, performance will be poor.
