What would you do?
    #7490599 - 10/06/07 07:10 AM (16 years, 3 months ago)

what would you do if you were sitting on the train, or bus, or whatever form of public transport you take, and all the seats are taken, there are also many people standing. A blind lady walks in with her guide dog. would you give up your seat for the blind lady?

mind you, there is NOTHING wrong with her legs.

Why? Probably because I can imagine it being difficult to foresee the lurches and acceleration of a bus/train when you are blind as a bat. Also, a person with a dog in the aisle would take up more room.

no the dog actually takes up more room when she sits down, because then the dog has to sit right in the aisle rather than her standing near the doors where there is more room for people to stand (and sit in the dogs case)

as for the acceleration, shouldn't a blind person be able to sense the train taking off? and if she has a hand rail then what is the difference?

I've seen a blind guy on the bus with a golden retriever guide dog, and his dog didn't sit in the aisle. It sat in the gap between the seats closest to the window.
I don't see what the big deal is though. You asked what I would do; I gave you my answer.

na i know you just gave an answer i am just trying to find out your reason for the answer.

the reason i'm asking the question is because this used to happen every day on the way to work. every day the same lady on the same carrage, and different people would give up thier seats EVERY day.

there was no way in the world i was giving up my fuckin seat for the rest of the trip.

i felt like she was using her disability to her advantage just to get a seat, and it pissed me off.

almost every person i have asked this question said they would give up thier seat.

ok, so if you were a office worker that sat on your ass all day, would you give your seat up for a hairdesser or a builder beacause they are on thier feet all day?

or if somone walked in with a broken arm would you then give your seat up?

How long is the ride?

I'm more likely to give up my seat to someone simply because I'm a nice guy.

Depends on if she could see me or not. I'd remain low and inconspicuous until she passed. Blind people have their third eye open, unless they are listening to thirdeye blind. Anyway, I wouldn't give up my set for the world, even if the whole world was blind.

I would give up my seat to her because it's the right thing for a guy to do. It doesn't matter if she is blind, broken arm/leg, ugly, hot, or anything, she is still a female and a man should ALWAYS offer his seat to a lady/woman/girl, as long as she is female! It's the right thing to do. Any man that doesn't isn't a real man, he's just some punk masquerading around as a man. And as far as a man is concerned, giving up a seat for another man( except for a man 70 years old and up), Fuck him, he's a man and he can stand!

On our local bus system, the larger seats in the front of the bus are reserved for the elderly and handicapped. If someone matching that description boards the bus, you are required to move from these seats.

As far as women 'deserving' a seat, this is old-fashioned, male chauvinistic bunk. Able-bodied humans can sit or stand while on the bus or train.

even if i was sitting in one of those seats where you are required to give up for the elderly, pregnant, or injured, i still wouln't give it to her. there is nothing wrong with her legs. she still sits there listening to her ipod and talking on her mobile phone, she should be able to stand.

by the way it's about a half an hour ride and she gets on about the 20 minute mark
