I just back from my first pick in the local woods near my house. I need some help with identifying, and what to do to properly clean them and whatnot.

Habitat: Ground - Found in deciduous woods, growing near a fallen tree in a lot of shrubbery.
Gills: The gill color is a light brown/beige similar to the cap color Stem: Brownish, pretty strong, same width all the way down. 3cm wide.
Cap: light brown, smooth, 1 1/2- 2 1/2 inches in diameter.
Spore print color: A light yellow
Bruising: Dark Brown bruise in middle of cap
Location: Northwest, Washington State

Knowing the spore print color would help.
I am going to guess white. It looks like a Collybia or one of the omphalinoid species.
In any case, if you follow the key on this page, you will surely arrive at the correct ID.
It won't be anything edible or active however.

The first couple of pics, do the bases and lower stems have yellowish woolly hairs on them and were they growing in leaf litter???

i do see some woolly hairs at the very bottom of the stems on the species in the first pictures. what does that mean for the species? and if they are indeed potent mushrooms how do i go about cleaning, and do i need to dry them?

So you don't still have the mushrooms on your person to examine? They aren't active, I was merely trying to id them for you.
If the bases and lower stems have yellowish woolly hairs on them and they were they growing in leaf litter I think they might be the Wood Woollyfoot (Collybia peronata)

They are not potent mushrooms.
Do not eat them.
What has bright yellow spores anyway? Doesn't look like Lactarius, Russula, Cantharellus, etc.
