Just a quick question to put something to rest

Was wondering if you wise and knowledgeable people could help me out with something?
Recently I've been doing a bit of homework on mushroom hunting, and I think I am in a good position to go out and find myself some. But I have a friend who is convinced the shrooms don't come out until after the first frost of the year.
Now I'm pretty sure this is bullshit, but I just thought I'd ask this board anyway. Is this for whatever reason the truth?
I live in the South of England by the way...
Cheers people!

Did he also mention they pop up out of the ground on a full moon night?

Libs in Newfoundland typically start coming up at the time of the first frost.
I don't think it has to do with the actual frost, so much as frost is an indicator that temperatures are dropping, signifying that it's a good time to pick.
