I enjoy Salvia as an entheogen, However I must admit I like it better when dealing with psychedelic experiments, Primarily dues to its strangeness and wide range of unpredictable qualities it has. Another quality of Salvia is how it interconnects holograpically for me as if it is almost a sort of thread that has sewn some of my trips together.
When dealing with smoking Salvia, I always like to have an enviornment with a sort of distraction; Often a distraction that I myself would maybe pay some mind to avoid. A benefit of this distraction I feel is that it mimics a behavior often experienced with this drug: Unpleasant or ill recieved effects. By putting a small element of "negative stimulus" into your quantification of the outer stimulus, Salvia for me has been less likely to what some consider to be unpleasant. For me, the experiment in of itself is pleasant.
Foreign enviornmental challenges I have set up hav been: Cluttered bedroom (very cluttered) while somewhat small. Very distracting. Metallica, Weird Techno, getting small objects thrown at me, watching grandtheft auto on PS2. All of these trips were very interesting and more special than when I took the time to "clear my mind" and prepare a "ritualistic" setting. Throwing setting to the wind, and even causing the wind to blow harder have given me the best realizations, convictions, and quatification of this wonderful plant.
This is interesting to me because it actually makes the trip more predictable, or quantifiable, when there appears to be little to no constants within Salvia Land. For instance, my friend and I listened to Metallica and we experienced the same aspects and effects as each other: For both of us, the music was a Sea Urchin type beast, with extended thorn like tentacles that whipped into our skinm simulating physcial pain. This warrants further exploration for me because The Plant (Salvia) seems to take on a "psychedelic dough" quality, where it can molded or pressed into shape using tools desginated and tested for the adventure.
Another interesting property I have experienced with Salvia is how it intermingles with trips past and trips to come. For instance, when dealing with the Atypical aspects of salvia (As opposed to the "mental dough" experiements), these moments of unpredictability and uncertainties manifest themselves in Mushrooms and LSD by having them become somewhat more variable. In other words, Salvia can be used as a key, to open up more doorways within the realms of LSD and Mushies. Doorways within doorways, suddenly when you thought you new all the tricks, ticks, and infrastructures of Mushrooms and LSD (LSD being pretty damn predictable in my experiences) there becomes areas of new determination or scrutiny. This means in effect, Salvia causes other drugs to become more doughlike, collapsable/expandable.
On example of this phenonema, is when "wave form, machine like, skin ripples flooded my body, with gravitational pull" while on LSD. It was clear to me that this effect neither belonged to LSD or Salvia alone. It was as if both "drug personalities" came to an agreement for an either new perspective or a reinforcemnt of the old one, the case being ether LSD's machine like properties, or LSD containing a new element not previously realized. This I feel needs further exploration. The cross infiltration salvia has in between trips is amazing, and I think with practice yo could make LSD,Mushrooms, or any psychedelic with similar magnitude entirely different.
To sum it up: Salvia has some aspects which are clearly influential based on outer stimulus combined with intention, about 50/50 for me. When not used intentionally, it has the capabilities to fill your head with Cosmic Wind, blowing any and every door open it can, sometimes blowing open doors to places you haven't even gone yet. I have not yet determined if this can be dangrous: Blowing open the front to Daemon Spirit University; Similar to the horror stories of Ouija boards and unwillingly summoning an evil spirit. I don't know, Salvia Land is a really big place, covering many mental miles. I'll just have to wait and see.

Interesting observations. Whenever I smoke salvia I usually clean my room, turn out all the lights and anything that makes noise (like my noisy-ass computer), and meditate for a bit before I start toking. It's almost never pleasant, even if the set and setting are seemingly perfect.
Distractions, however, are generally pretty mentally stimulating to me. I meditate better with music, do homework better with the TV on, etc. I'll have to try this with salvia someday.
